My favorite part of the day is coming home. I finish up at the office, drive the short trip home up my beautiful country road, and pull into my garage.
I'm home.
How do they know it's me? How is it that their bark is always different than when it's a delivery person at the door?
Once I'm inside it's first things first - throw the keys on the counter and race down the stairs to release the hounds!
My old girl, Lily, has the best greeting for me...always. She butts her head into my legs while wiggling her entire hind end like crazy. Her 'head butts' are her way of giving hugs and kisses. Always.
My little Daisy, the Monkey, has a weird way of saying hello....she runs and gets a toy and then runs away from me. She'll settle somewhere....in her little bed, on her favorite chair, or back downstairs on my daughter's bed...and it's a game. You have to find her and go to her. She'll wiggle like crazy with her little toy in her mouth and then finally spit it out and give stinky kisses.
It's the best.
Coming home is the best. but coming home to pups is even better. Without a doubt.
Sure, there are always chores to do when I get home. After the big greeting, of course.
Let the pups out. Unload the dishwasher. Start making dinner. Get the fire going.
But it's home. No place like it.
A nice station on Pandora, a glass of wine or a cocktail, and a lovely dinner.
My kind of night.
It truly is the simple pleasures, isn't it?

I love nights like these.
ReplyDeleteTruly my favorite times are those spent at home!
DeleteYour puppies are so cute and little. I have 2 Old English Sheep Dogs that are rescue dogs from really horrible conditions. When I come home it's all out crazy time. They like to charge and then it's crotch rocket time. They will literally take you for a ride if you don't hang on to something. The herding is part of them so they're just doing their job. I can't imagine our lives without them. I'm a home body too!
ReplyDeleteI laughed so hard at this, Patti! And I'm so glad you gave your two furballs a loving home - thanks for sharing your 'coming home' experience and making me laugh!

ReplyDeleteYour photos and words made me think I had just got home. Then I quickly had to remind myself that I don't live there. darn! lol Your home is a 'favorite' of mine. You put so much love into it and it shows everywhere.{{Hugs}} for those pups. Deb
ReplyDeleteAwww, thanks so much, Deb, that's so sweet!! Hugs right back!!
DeleteIt surely is the simple pleasures. That little Monkey is coy, huh? I love the strange habits of dogs. The reason they know it's you and not the Fed Ex guy is the sound of your car.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
She's a crackpot, that's what she is!
DeleteWhat a sweet welcome home greeting and your nightly rituals. Love your sweet home.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia :)
I admit I often cover the pups in lipstick when I get home....kisses all over their baby heads!!
DeleteGlad you are home safe and had a great welcome. :) Just a light on when you get there is a welcome to me. My daughters all just texted me they were home safe in our winter storm. That's a relief. Blessings to you and yours, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteI have my little light by the bar on a timer so there's always a light on for me when I come home. Glad to her you are all safe in your winter storm, Susie!!
DeleteWhat adorable doggies!! Youre not getting any of that rough weather/storms up that way are you? Hopefully not...just saw it on the news. Your home is warm, welcoming, and gorgeous..love seeing the photos and wow what a pretty supper table!
ReplyDeleteWe had crazy rain, wind, sleet, ice, snow, and then 55 degrees....all in about a 24 hour period. Nuts!
DeleteCute, cute pups! Dogs must have very keen hearing. Our dog knows the sound of my husband's and daughter's cars. He will wiggling his whole body and making whining sounds even before they drive into the yard! No matter where in the house he is, when the mailperson walks onto the front steps he comes flying to the door barking fiercely...if he caught them he would lick them to death, I am sure.
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha ha that's so cute!! I think my little Monkey would be happy to take a bite out of the fedex guy....my old girl can't be bothered any more. She's quite happy in her bed!
DeleteJust like Dorothy says on The Wizard of Oz...There's no place like home...and I couldn't agree more!
ReplyDeleteWithout a doubt, Lori!
DeleteI agree...there is no place like home! Your home is beautiful and welcoming and anyone would love coming home to that and those sweet little pups! Hugs!!
ReplyDeleteIt's the most amazing part of my day, Benita!
DeleteThat looks absolutely perfect to me! Your place is so pretty. I can't imaging coming home and no dog waiting to greet you!
ReplyDeleteI can't either....I have had a dog for so long I just can't picture how quiet the house would be.
DeleteThis post just makes me smile...your pups are adorable...and your home is so welcoming and cozy! There's no place like home...
ReplyDeleteNo place on earth, Linda!
DeleteThere is nothing better than having a really bad day and coming home to ecstatic pups!! and that's a fact!

And you certainly know all about that, Ellen, just like me!! :)
DeleteComing home is the absolute best. After work, a long day of errands, whatever. Home is like one big embrace, isn't it? Your pups are just adorable...and that quiche looks amazing. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt was beyond amazing, Melanie...and the fresh mozzarella that a friend of ours made was just the topper!
DeleteI agree...there is nothing better than coming home to your "refuge" from the world. And pups make it even better...they give unconditional love :)
ReplyDeleteTurn on the little lamps...light the candles....start supper....it's all routine but it's such a cozy little routine, isn't it?
DeleteHome sweet home, there's nothing like it. I always love pulling into my driveway off the 5 lane road out front. It's my little haven.
ReplyDeleteYour canine family members are adorable.

Thanks, Lorraine! Everyone has their own style, their own version of home...but either way, it's home!!
DeleteI think you and I very much have the same idea of what home means! Yours seems very cozy and I always think it's wonderful when someone is so full of gratitude for what they have!
ReplyDeleteI truly am blessed, Jen, as are you. We are some of the lucky ones.
DeleteI'm with you on loving to come home. Those greeting by the fur babies are the best!

ReplyDeleteI'm glad my little one has grown out of her super excited 'dribbles' on the floor when I get home - I used to have to greet her outside every time otherwise I was cleaning up a little puddle!
DeleteI would say that is called perfection! Love your blog!
ReplyDelete~Bobbie
Thanks so much, Bobbie - welcome!!
DeleteThere's no place like home! And your dogs are so adorable. When we lived in our previous house, our dogs all knew when hubby was coming home when his truck was a block away! Unbelievable, but true!
ReplyDeleteThat's a riot, Carol - isn't it amazing how they know?
DeleteI love this post! Oh what delight it is to come home after a day of work, and have such sweet fur ball greetings! Your cozy home is so welcoming, and lovely, and I loved your table place setting with the cake pedestal in the center, gorgeous! What a joy it is indeed to be home :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much - and I think on Mondays it's even more exciting to get home at last!!
DeleteYes - NO PLACE LIKE HOME - and yours looks so inviting and friendly. Love the little doggies. They just beam happiness and contentment now that Mommy is home. Your table and Quiche look delicious! WELCOME HOME! Loved this post. So glad you shared.
ReplyDeleteAwww, thanks, Bernideen! I can't wait to get home most days, without a doubt!!
DeleteYes! I love coming home. In my case, there are two kitties waiting to be released and looking for food. I would never leave home if I didn't have to! Love this post. Your quiche looks delicious....recipe??!!

Filled with love...and puppy toys....and sometimes dust bunnies...and more love!
DeleteYou and I could be best friends. I feel this way about home and pups too. That's probably why so many of us love blogging - it's a community of home lovers. Sharing this on Facebook. :)
ReplyDeleteI do believe that's true, Stacey! Tell me again why you don't live in NY so we could meet up for lunch? :)
DeleteI agree! When I was working, and my husband was working from home, I'd ask him to send me a photo of something from home - the garden, the deck...something to connect me while I was at work. My dog does the same thing as your Daisy -runs to bring us a present, and then runs away. Great post!
ReplyDeleteThat's so cute, Amy! I wish I could have the pups send me a snapshot when I'm at work - ha ha!
