Welcome Home, Little Miss Molly

We have a wonderful new member of our family that I've been dying for you to meet!

Say hello to little miss Molly!

Isn't she just the cutest, sweetest little baby? She's a Papillon/Chihuahua mix, known as a Chion, and they estimate her age at 3 years old. She's going to our vet on Saturday for a check up, and I'll see how old she thinks Molly is, as we suspect she may be younger. She certainly acts like a pup, that's for sure!

Let me tell you a little about how little miss Molly came into our lives!

As you know, I already have two pups - there's the Monkey, and her mom, my old girl, Lily.

I love them with all my heart.

But my Lily girl is getting old, she's 15 now...and she's not going to be around forever.

Since Monkey is her daughter....who is actually named Daisy, by the way, but you all know her as the Monkey....the truth is, she's never, ever been alone.

So, I've been looking for about a year to bring a new furbaby into our family.

You would not believe how many pups I've tried to adopt already.

Well, actually not pups - I wanted an adult dog, a female, and small enough for me to easily carry her up and down the stairs when she gets old and it's too much for her.

Because let me tell you something, carrying Lily up and down this past winter when she was having a bad spell was tough....and she's not even a huge dog!

Anyway, I found many sweet angels on various rescue and adoption sites that I was interested in bringing home to love.  Each time, I would ask for more info and fill out the application....and most times, never hear a thing back.

Ridiculous, right?

You would think they would want these sweet babies to find forever homes.

Needless to say, it was a little disheartening. We were ready to open our home to a little angel that needed a forever home, and the staff at these agencies didn't even bother to respond to our inquiries.

That was, until one day last week. I don't know why, because it wasn't a regular thing by any means, but last Monday, for some reason when the Adopt a Pet update came through my email, I clicked through and started scrolling through the dogs that were within the parameters of my search.

And there was this sweet angel, looking for her forever home.

I fell immediately in love, and requested more information.

Of course, I didn't really expect to hear anything back.

But, remarkably I did...within an hour I got an email from Molli at Companion Pet Rescue

I expected to find out that she had already been adopted.

Nope, oh my gosh, she was still available!

I filled out the application immediately, contacted my vet to let them know the rescue organization would be calling, and said a little prayer.

Well, my prayers were answered because just two days later I got word from Companion Pet Rescue that my application was approved....and Molly was on her way to New York from Tennessee!

And guess what....she was arriving the very next day!

I panicked a little, as I had meetings at work that I couldn't reschedule, but fortunately my daughter was available....and beyond excited....to pick up sweet Molly at the drop off point, about an hour south of our little mountain top home.

Here's sweet little miss Molly in my daughter's car on her way home, after a very long trip.

She was in a crate, in a huge truck, with a bunch of other pups that were also on their way up North.

They were all hoping to find their forever homes.

Look at those big eyes. Poor sweet baby was so scared.

But as soon as she got into my daughter's arms, she just started licking her all over.

And my daughter burst into tears, she was so happy we could rescue this sweet baby.

Molly must have known she was safe now, because she slept the rest of the way home.

We set up a 'safe zone' for her in the guest bathroom, with a big pee pad, a new bed, some new toys, and a little bowl of food and water.

Of course, she got a billion snuggles and kisses first! But she needed a safe place to go while we housebreak her, and while the other two pups get used to her.

It didn't take her long to get used to her little bed. She arrived with a blankie from her foster mom, who rescued her from a bad situation.

Thank you Donna, for saving this sweet baby girl. I am forever grateful to you.

The morning after she arrived, both Molly and her blankie got a much needed bubble bath!

Remember, this poor sweet baby was in a crate all the way from Tennesee!

Well, now she's in her forever home.

We just want to give her so much love, and make her feel safe and secure for the first time in her life.

From what we know, this poor baby was owned by a man who left her outside in a cage day and night.

She was never housebroken. The cage was her home.

No human contact. No love, no cuddles.

She's so tiny and skinny I imagine she was given limited food and water.

I can only guess that's why she likes to eat grass and leaves.

It might be all she had to put in her tiny belly at times.

My heart breaks just thinking of what she's been through.

She's safe and loved now, and I'm never letting her go.

We'll work on the housebreaking with much patience and perseverence, and once that obstacle is crossed, there's no doubt in my mind she will be the most perfect dog.

She's so sweet and such a little lovebug. She just wants to cuddle and play and give kisses.

And eat. I'm guessing she can't get enough food because she went hungry for so long.

She's starting to answer to her name, and I think it really suits her.

She's definitely not trusting of men....I've only heard her bark once, and that was at Sweetie when he came over for dinner last night.

She'll come to love him as much as the other pups do. He's a true animal lover and spoils them to bits.

It's heartbreaking to leave her when I'm going to work. Fortunately, I can run home midday and let them all out, and give them all a little love and a cuddle.

Sweet little miss Molly wants nothing more than to make us happy, and to love us unconditionally.

Her foster mom, Donna, told me she's got a heart the size of Texas in the tiniest little body.

She was so right.

Donna, you are forever in our hearts for rescuing this sweet angel.

We can't thank you and Companion Pet Rescue enough for what you do to help these poor innocent little animals. They don't deserve to be mistreated. They should all be in homes where they are loved like part of the family.

Just like my three furbabies....Lily, Daisy, and Molly.

If you have room in your heart and home for a sweet angel of your own why don't you visit the babies that are up for adoption at Companion Pet Rescue?

You just might get lucky and find a sweet baby that steals your heart.

Just like I did.

Welcome home, little miss Molly.

  1. I cried all the way through this! She is adorable and does have the sweetest of faces. I can't have any more pets where I live, but I would have taken her if I could. My dogs aren't crazy about men either. Bless you!

  2. Oh, Debbie! How sweet Miss Mollie is! I could just kiss her right now and her story breaks my heart except for knowing that it meant she was coming to you, a Mama who will love her and take care of her the rest of her life. I hope your sweet Lily and the Monkey get used to her soon. Won't it be wonderful for her to have these new companions? I'm so very happy for Molly and her new family.

  3. What a wonderful day for Mollie and how lucky you are to have her. Typing this through my tears. Why anyone would hurt any animal is something I will never understand.
Our son rescued a dog 4 years ago. It took a lot of patience working with him, but over time he loves us and we adore him.
Enjoy your new family Mollie. I hope we see your sweet face often on this blog :-)

    1. No doubt you will be seeing a lot of little miss Molly here on the blog, Jen! I wonder how long it will take me to housebreak her - was your son's rescue housebroken?

    2. Yes he was housebroken. However, he was terrified of men (except for my son and husband) so if approached even if he was inside the house he would pee! He still has an accident from time to time but much much better. Looking in his beautiful eyes we forgive him and keep guiding him to do better. I hope Molly will catch on very soon.

    3. Awww, poor sweet baby! Molly is afraid of men also....although she wasn't shying away from my sweetie last night when he was feeding her lots of pieces of roast chicken, that's for sure!!

  4. Molly has hit the jackpot with your family! She is adorable. I am so happy you rescued her. My shelter where I volunteer in East Tenn also transports to New York, Minnesota and others. We send dogs and cats every other week. We have an abundance of animals here and the transport program saves thousands. Enjoy!!!!!!

  6. Such a sweetie!! We have rescued Welsh Terriers in the past, some with horrific stories, like our sweet little girl left in a cage with little food or water and a broken shoulder. She also had a heart condition, and only lived for 2 years after we got her. So scared of everything but blossomed into a happy girl in a real home with lots of love. Bless you for giving Mollie a forever home.

When I talked with you I knew that she had found a forever wonderful home and she will never have to be cold or hungry or unloved ever again. Thank you so much for adopting this little angel, and God bless you for adopting and not shopping! Companion Pet Rescue is an awesome organization that just wants to help animals find their forever homes. Thank you again for your loving heart love Donna

    1. Oh, Susan, that's just what my Monkey loves to do! She is so happy curled up on someone's lap under a blanket! I'm sure miss Molly will be the same, although she's still adjusting to her new life. She does love to snuggle, that's for sure! Once she is up on my lap she gets down on the chair between the arm of the chair and my leg and falls fast asleep within minutes! What a cutie!! I'm curious - was your rescue housebroken when you got her? If not, how long did it take?

    2. My little 5-pound Chihuahua I got as a puppy and she was difficult to housetrain (by the way, one of her favorite spots is also between my leg and the arm of the sofa still under a blanket). She is soon to be 11 and I can no longer remember how long it took. Our Papillon/Chihuahua mix was fully housetrained and only had one accident the day we brought her home. She came from a high kill shelter in West Virginia but seemed trained in all areas and other than she grumbles when we need to get up and get her off of our laps, she is a happy dog.

    3. I am so glad you rescued her from a high kill shelter - isn't it just baffling that she ever ended up there?

    4. My research led me to believe she was owned by brothers and one passed away. Even so, how could she be sent to such a place? Also, I truly don't want to alarm you, but I assume you have hawks so be careful with Molly outside.

    5. Absolutely. Yes we have both hawks and owls as well as turkey vultures and coyotes. She cannot be sent outside alone, for sure! I watch her like...well, like a HAWK!

  12. Wait, I have to wipe the tears off my glasses and tablet...there...welcome to your new forever home, sweet Molly! I have two rescued Chihuahuas and they are my heart. There isn't a hell hot enough for folks who mistreat animals. Molly is absolutely precious and I suspect very smart. My oldest daughter is involved the pug rescue in the Dallas area. One pug made her way to Alaska. Congratulations on your new baby! The best thing about a new baby is the cuddling!

    1. Oh my gosh, Donna, that's so wonderful that your daughter helps rescue the sweet Pug babies!! Alaska, wow, that's really something, isn't it? I wonder how the Pug adjusted to life in Alaska? Lucky baby, I'm dying to go there!! :) Were your rescues housebroken when you got them? I'm curious how long to expect it will take to housebreak miss Molly, since she's an adult dog. I've only ever housebroken puppies, and it's been 8 years since I had to!

    2. My boys were just a few weeks old when they mother got run over. Another lady who raises Pomeranians took them in, got rid of their multitudes of fleas and fed them until they were about 9 weeks old. They are not "rescues" in the traditional sense but they were rescued from a negligent home. Who lets their mommy dog out without supervision? And the fleas, omg... Alana had been a foster pug mom but she fell in love with a rescue so she can no longer foster. Good luck with the potty training. She may be so eager to please that it will be a snap.

I keep wondering what Sadie had gone through before we got her. Sometimes she's a tad aggressive towards other dogs, but I'm wondering if other dogs gave her grief while she was a stray. I guess there's always going to be that unknown about our rescued dogs. Enjoy her and love her❤️

  22. Such a sweet doggie and a sweet ending for her, to be living in a loving home. I hope she adapts and lets all her fears and anxieties go from all the love she is getting. My sweet little kitty Sprite, after 2 years, is just now starting to warm up to us and visitors. She was bullied by large cats when she was a baby. Animal rescues are the best and the only place I will adopt from.

    1. Oh poor little Sprite! What a cute name for a kitty!! My old girl, Lily, was adopted also but it was from a family that was giving her up. She is a purebred and a wonderful dog, which is why I bred her. After I bred her and gave away all but one of the pups I spayed her. And her pup turned out to be NOTHING like her - no doubt I gave away the ones that got Lily's wonderful personality!! Ha ha, oh well, I love my Monkey to bits, despite the fact that she can be a little punk at times!
