Small Changes Around Here

It's funny, I've owned my house for nearly two years now, yet it still seems so 'new' to me at times.

I feel like there are still so many things I want to change, but bit by bit I'm making this little house my own.

The biggest project that was tackled recently was changing out all the carpet on the lower level to beautiful Pergo floors.

That was an expensive project, but really had to happen due to moisture issues under the carpet.

Stinky moisture issues.

While my contractor was still here, I had him tackle a few other things that needed doing.

The awful track lighting in the kitchen went bye bye.....yayyyyy!

Not only was part of it no longer working, but every time a bulb went I had such a terrible time putting in a new one! It was so complicated and irritating, I couldn't wait for it to be gone.

Plus it was a relic of the 90's and was covered in years of grease and grime. Ewwww.

I love the new light fixtures, they are such an improvement over what was there before!

Sorry I forgot to take 'before' pictures....I'm forgetful like that sometimes. Trust me, they were ugly.

As an added bonus, the new fixtures are LED and incredibly bright - they really illuminate every little corner of the kitchen, and are super energy efficient. And they were inexpensive.

Plus the bulbs are easy to replace, and also last an extremely long time. Win/win for me!

The next thing to go was the kitchen faucet.

This is the faucet that was there before. The soap dispenser was broken and kept falling off. It drove me nuts. The sprayer was so grungy, the faucet dripped, and I didn't like the style in the least. Too modern for my little country house.

I love my new faucet! The style looks so much better in this house, and ties in with the other fixtures in the kitchen and dining room, such as the new kitchen lights and the dining room chandelier. Even the drapery rods and coat hooks!

All in all, I'm just happier with the overall look. All small changes, but with big impacts to me.

And at the end of the day, that's what matters. Because it's my little house and should make me happy.

And it truly does. I love my little house.

But I'll love it more when I get rid of the railings by the staircase.

Someday.

  4. Yay for you! I love your changes and so agree to make your home just for you! It takes a little while to make your house just right. Really, I don't know if we ever finish though! :) We're going on our third winter here and I still have things to do but it didn't take too long for this house to become our home!
Hope all else is going well for you.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelai ;)

    1. I do love the freedom that Pergo gives me, Diana! It means I don't worry as much about my old dog's accidents, that are unfortunately happening more frequently than I'd like!

    1. Hi Deb! We got two separate storms, one Thursday and one Sunday, and each dropped at least a foot of snow on us. We'll be still seeing snow in May, no doubt! But we need the moisture, our wells were drying up all around. How did you do down there?

  19. Small changes can make the biggest difference...plus you're not shelling out a king's ransom for them. The new floors on the lower level are beautiful. Can't have mold growing in your home. Love the new faucet...they all wear out after a while, leak and get just generally gross looking. The lighting is great...nice to be able to actually see what you are doing. xoxo

    1. It's nice to have such good lighting in the kitchen when I'm cooking using those super sharp knives my sweetie got me at Christmas! Even so, I've still managed to give myself a couple of boo-boos....:(

  20. All the changes are perfect for your home! That new faucet fits right in.

I need to take the carpet out of my downstairs too. It's an ugly brown berber.... blech! One day ;)

Catching up with you was so nice. I'm glad you're loving where you are. I think everyone should be that happy :)

    1. I hope you're that happy in your sweet home, Rue, and I truly think you are! There are always a million things that need to be done, but working full time doesn't allow for me to always be on top of them. Oh well! I love how much I've accomplished so far, and I just look around my little home and I feel such peace that it's mine...with only my name on the deed! :)
