Creating a Rustic Chic Centerpiece

What many of you don't know is that in my real life (non blogging life) I plan weddings and events for a living.

Yup, that's why I disappear at certain times of the year.

I'm swamped.

So, I was super excited when Oriental Trading wanted to team up for their new Marry Me line.

Oh yeah, that's right up my alley!

I had fun browsing through the collection, imagining all the ways I could use the items for my weddings.

They have a fantastic selection, and I know my wedding couples are going to be super pumped that they can create beautiful, affordable centerpieces using products from Oriental Trading, and their imagination!

Since I've been planning weddings for so long, I have a very good idea of what's trending - and this year it's all about copper.

When I saw these gorgeous copper lanterns, I was sold immediately! They are absolutely stunning, and I was so impressed with the quality when I opened the boxes.

Rustic chic has been trending for a few years now. Wood slabs are everywhere.....and Oriental Trading has them already pre-cut and ready to go. I started with two wood slabs as my base, to build my centerpiece.

In keeping with the 'nature and outdoors' theme that is also so hot right now, I also chose these cute pinecone votive holders.

I kept the flowers simple, and used wildflowers from my own garden. I tucked them into a mason  jar, wrapped it in a napkin, and tied it with a coordinating ribbon.

Obviously this is not a wedding, but my own dining room. We were having a goodbye dinner for my older daughter, who was moving the next day.

For a wedding, you may want to go a little more elaborate with the flowers.

There are so many different things you can do with these lanterns, in every season. I just adore them.

I also selected these adorable gold glittery pumpkins, which would be amazing for a fall wedding. The photos really don't do them justice, they are far more beautiful in person.

There are so many ways to use copper lanterns and wood slabs in your wedding and/or home decor.

And, of course, candles are a must. I am most definitely a huge candle person.

  8. Wow, Debbie, I'm impressed with the apparent quality! I used to shop Oriental Trading when my kids were little, and my sister actually tapped into them again when we hosted the Tiffany bridal shower. Those wooden slabs are a GREAT bargain! Your table looks beautiful, and you're right, you'll be able to use those items in home decor easily. If used with smaller, vintage dishes, the wooden slabs look like they can even be chargers. I wasn't aware of OTC's Marry Me line - good to know.
I had no idea event planner is what your real job was. That's pretty darn awesome. No matter how awesome a job is, though, TGIF (unless you have to be at an event, which I bet chances are you do). I hope you have a great weekend regardless.

  10. Oh... so THAT's what you do! So cool. I love those wood slabs. My husband and I have been trying to make our own, but alas, every time we think we finally have one, the darn thing cracks! Ah well, I guess I can't make everything. I just love those votive holders with the wood slabs - so rustic. I used to get catalogs from Oriental Trading years ago and would theme my son's birthday parties with all their goodies. Thanks for reminding me about them!

  11. Ooh, lots of pretties! The quality looks good and Oriental Trading always had reasonable prices. Love the table you set up for your daughter's party. Wishing her all the best as she moves into another phase of her life. I keep forgetting to tell you...quite a while back, you had posted a casual outfit with jeans, tank and a plaid shirt and I pinned it on Pinterest. That single outfit has probably the highest number of repins of everything I have pinned. Enjoy your weekend! xoxo

    1. Well I went to school for hotel and restaurant management a million years ago, Lori. I actually just kind of fell into this specialty....but I'm sure they have programs that focus on event planning now. Tell your youngest to expect to work a lot of nights and weekends in this field!!
