Disappointment & More Projects

Remember how excited I was in my last post about the treasure that was coming to my home?

Well, I'm still not sure what quite happened, but apparently when my mom and sister went the next day to pick up the piece it had been sold to someone else.

What??? How does that happen?

Needless to say, I'm sad about this turn of events. As much as I don't like change, that was one beautiful piece of furniture.

Oh well, I guess it wasn't meant to be. My little bar will be staying right where it is.

There is a pretty big project in the works right now, which I shall share with you when it's complete.

Let's just say, Sweetie is at it again. He always amazes me with his level of skill when it comes to tackling home improvement projects. I'm still in awe at how great the fence came out last summer! For a guy that had a white collar job, he certainly learned some valuable home and garden improvement skills along the way!

He worked his poor little butt of yesterday in the hot sun, and the project is off to a good start. Hopefully I'll be able to share it with you in just a few days.

There's another project I need to tackle, and that is killing all the weeds on the patio. It's truly amazing how so many weeds grow up between the paving stones!

I did a vinegar test, and it worked really well at killing off the weeds in a small section. Now I just need to get about 6 more gallons of vinegar and get to work!

It's best to use the vinegar on a hot, sunny day, when you will have a couple of dry days in a row to let it do its work.

Apparently after you kill the weeds, they should be power washed off the patio, and then the stones re-sanded and sealed. There's a place online to get a good tutorial, at Two Brothers Brick Paving. They have some amazing before-and-afters that are inspiring me to get out there and get to work.

Wouldn't it be amazing to transform my mess of a patio to this?

Do you have any big projects in the works right now?

Whatever you're doing, I hope you all have a wonderful and safe July 4th holiday!

  1. Debbie, Yes, honey I do have a project...but it's be awhile before I tackle it. I want to stain the floor of the front deck/porch and then the little deck we built last year in back. I do not like the heat, so I will wait till nicer days. I do the weed killing in the brick walkways here. Some times Ted will use round-up. I like the vinegar method.Sorry you missed out on the little bar. Blessings for a fun filled 4th. xoxo,Susie

  2. You always have so many wonderful projects in the works. Yes, we are trying to work on the backyard, but the heat is really getting to us.

    1. No doubt, Marty! I always wonder how you get anything at all done outdoors in the summer in a warm climate like AZ!

  3. No, too hot to start any projects. Sorry you missed out on the furniture. I always tell myself the same thing: Wasn't meant to be.

    1. So true, Brenda, and at least I don't have to move everything around now....I was wondering when I would find time to do that!

  4. I am so sorry you didn't get that cabinet after all. Disappointing, for sure. We always have a project in the works here - or rather, ones that we SHOULD be doing! My hubby works such long hours that it's hard to get anything done. We're getting new windows on Wednesday - but at least that's contracted out! ;-)

    1. That's exciting, Melanie! I put in new windows my first season in the house, what a difference it made in both appearance and energy savings!

  5. Lots of projects in the works, a big one just completed...phew! Can't wait to see what yours is. And yes, the vinegar trick works. We use it on the bricks around our pool. Keeps the weeds at bay, too. Sorry about your hutch, but maybe something better will come along and now you'll have room!! Happy 4th!

    1. Can't wait to see what your new project was, Kim!! The vinegar is great, now if I can only find time to re-sand and seal the patio, it would be great. Oh and power wash. I need a clone....

    1. I guess that's just how it is when we own a home, right, Carole? And being big gardeners as well adds to the list!

  7. I'm sorry your Ethan Allen hutch didn't work out. There's something better you'll find later! Good tip about the vinegar. I've never tried it but just might now that I've read your post. Thank you for sharing!

  8. How disappointing that your piece of furniture you were getting was sold to someone else. Maybe something else will come along that you will like even better. Killing those weeds sounds like to much work to me! LOL Nancy

    1. I got half of them (or maybe a third??) killed the other day, Nancy. I put the vinegar in one of those giant sprayer things that you pump. It worked really well! They started dying within about a half hour.

  9. Sorry you did not get your hutch. I know another one will come along for you. Killing the weeds sounds like a good natural way to kill them. I have way too many projects in the works at the new house!

  10. I hate you didn't get the hutch. Your dining room is so pretty, it would be a shame to move everything around. Like you said, maybe it was meant to be. There is always some big project needing to be done. We've just bought a pressure washer to use...on the brick paths, the foot bridges, the pier, the chimney...now, where to begin! :)

    1. Well I guess you can do whatever you can by yourself, Lisa - I used to do that when my husband wasn't on board with projects!! Of course now that I have my own home it's a lot easier!

  13. I'm so sorry about the hutch. I am going to try the vinegar trick on the horrible thistles we have out front. Those suckers just never die!

    1. I would love to try it on the bindweed and tansy, also, Debbie, but they are in among other plants so it would kill them also, sadly!!

  14. No major projects here. Just maintaining things and not making any more improvements.

Sorry about the furniture, but I've learned if no money changes hands it's not a guarantee the deal will go through. Guess it wasn't meant to be, but it was lovely.

    1. Yeah, it's disappointing for sure, Doreen. I was super excited about that piece. I still don't know what happened....I thought it was a done deal the way my sister spoke about it. Oh well!

  15. I am sorry you didn't get your piece of furniture:( That's such a shame. Thank for the vinegar tip. I have a friend who keeps diluted bleach in a spray bottle for weeds. I should google that and see if it is really safe.

    1. Bleach is actually not safe to use in the gardens, Pinky. Not if you are trying to garden organically. I tell you, the vinegar works REALLY well! I buy the gallons in the market and dump them into my big pump garden sprayer and go to town! It's best to do it on a hot day, it works really quickly then!
