I Finally Did It!

I know some of you are going to think I'm nuts, but I'm ok with that.

It wouldn't be the first time.

But, I'm super proud of myself!

Why, you ask?

Well, I'm going to tell you!

Because of this.

What is it, you ask?

Well, only the fact that after two and a half YEARS in my house I have finally bit the bullet and hammered nails into my walls!

Yes, I'm ridiculous, I know.

But I didn't have the heart to ruin my nice paint job for just any old art.

It had to be special and mean something to me.

Well, recently my friend Brenda over at Cozy Little House posted about how she gets great art at Wayfair, for unbelievably low prices.

Oh my gosh, I was so excited!

One of the reasons I hadn't committed to any art was that every time I saw something I thought I liked, the prices were so high I just couldn't commit to it.

What if I hated it? I'm not good with change, remember.

But seriously, I found some pieces for such an amazing price I just had to go ahead and pull the trigger.

And you know what? These aren't them!

I bought these when I first bought my house, from a local photographer.

They are beautiful photos of lovely local scenes, framed in reclaimed barn wood.

The one above is a local waterfall in Autumn.

They've been hanging downstairs in my daughter's family room since they were purchased.

Well, you know what? When I bought the new art from Wayfair, I swapped it in and brought these upstairs where they belong!

Lord knows my daughter didn't appreciate them, that's for certain!

I was a little worried the difference in size would bother me, but it really doesn't. I didn't want something matchy-matchy on either side of the fireplace, but the two pieces had to compliment each other.

I think I've achieved that!

The rustic frames and nature scenes really work well with the field stone fireplace.

Not to mention, the piece on the left side needed to be smaller, since there's so much going on in that corner already.

I'm truly delighted with the 'new' artwork, it feels as if the room is finally finished!

Let's face it, I'll always be changing out pillows and accessories, but I'm no longer looking at blank walls and trying to figure out what to put there!

Meanwhile, the dining room did get a new piece from Wayfair. See the French Cafe canvas over the bar? I fell in love with that piece and it just had to come live in my dining room!

I have a dream of going to France and experiencing all the wonderful food, basically eating my way across France.

I can just see myself sitting outside a little French cafe, listening to the music, enjoying some incredible cheese, bread, and wine.

Some day.

For now, I surround my dining room with art that reminds me of my dream on a daily basis.

The canvas of the Eiffel Tower that used to hang above the bar is now in the corner next to the china hutch. I've been looking for something for that naked wall for the past 2 1/2 years also, so this works out perfectly.

Again, it just feels as if the dining room is finished now. No more blank walls staring at me.

My dining room, which was always so cozy, is now even more so.

The new cafe print compliments the Thomas Kinkade print of a San Francisco cafe that my sisters gave me eons ago, for my 30th birthday.

Yeah, that's not today or yesterday, that's for sure!

It's one of my prized possessions.

As is my other Thomas Kinkade, which was a gift from my parents for my wedding. It hangs in the living room, right above the bookcase behind the white chairs.

I adore it. When my marriage ended, I carefully wrapped it and it moved with me to my rental homes, where it hung in a place of honor, as it does now.

So, the living room also has a sort of 'theme' since it's all gorgeous nature/landscape scenes that bring me peace.

The living room has gone from cozy to super cozy!

I just love my sweet little mountain home.

I am so blessed to live in a home I love so much, in an area that I adore.

This city girl could never go back, not a chance!

I putter around my little house at night after everyone has gone to bed, and I am truly at peace.

The evenings are cool, and I slip into my simple white bed, and snuggle under my fluffy down comforter.

Heaven. Sleeping in a cloud.

In the mornings, I stand at my kitchen window, enjoying the beautiful sunshine and the blooms of the Morning Glories right outside my window.

And the little Monkey finds a spot of sunshine to curl up in, leaving the bed to two of her favorite toys.

Life is good.

I am so blessed.

  2. It looks great and super cozy! I figure, with the prices at Wayfair with that Open Box deal, I can switch things out and won't feel bad about the prices. I love your mountain home. Wish I could live somewhere like that. You are both a talented and lucky woman!

    1. I put one large Wayfair canvas where the larger photo once was, and put another small picture I had stashed away in a cabinet where the other small photo was - it's perfect, Carole!

  4. At first when you were talking about Wayfair art and I saw the two photography pieces, I was like, "Whaat?!" Ha ha Debbie, these are beautiful. They are absolutely perfect beside the fireplace. I honestly think they made all the difference in your room. Your room was cozy before, but now it's even more so. Looks totally complete. Good job! And I do love the Wayfair print above your bar cart. Perfect for that spot, too. Looking at the photos of your home, I realize I need some more low lighting and maybe some fairy lights, too. I think it really adds to the coziness of a home.

    1. Hey, you can never have too many accent lights or fairy lights, in my opinion, Melanie! I'm sort of addicted to lights....and candles!

    1. Art is so subjective, Lisa - it has to tug at your heartstrings and make you feel something or it's not worth it!

  12. Beautiful! When I saw those framed photographs, they remind me of places here in WV too. And you know what? I'm the same way with nails in the wall! I love your home, Debbie. I hope you have a great weekend. We're expecting high 50s tonight!

  14. I love ALL your artwork pieces and I am glad you finally put them up. I do feel like it really finishes the room and makes it feel homey. My husband has always had a phobia about putting nail holes in the walls s0 as soon as I moved into a house, before he could whine about it, I started pounding in nails and hanging pictures before I did anything else. I figured I could always move them if I needed to and hey..what is spackling for anyway!?!! xo Diana

    1. This was the first time in my life I ever had a professional paint my house, I think that's why I was so freaked about putting holes in the walls, Diana! It just looked so darned good when he was done!

  15. I love your super cozy house, Debbie! I can go a long time without something on our walls until I find that perfect piece. I don't like to spend a lot for art on our walls either only because if I tire of it, its easier to change knowing you won't be taking down and storing an expensive piece.

  19. I've enjoyed my tour of your home so much! And I do love the new artwork on the walls. There couldn't possibly be anything better for this room you relax in than local photos of the beauty where you live. And then over the bar is an ideal place for the Paris cafe scene. I do hope you get to go someday. As hard as it must be to leave your beautiful home and gardens, I imagine France could pull you away with no problem!

  20. Just ran across your blog and love seeing your sweet home. I love small spaces also, and I have a 560' farmhouse and a tiny 8x18' house on wheels here in the mountains of NC. I often call myself "Country mamma", so it was fun to find your blog. I am mom to fur kids and we enjoy country life as you and your fur babies do. I am looking forward to exploring your blog. Many blessings.
