I have had a few of my wonderful readers remark on how much I do around my house.
Yes, that's true. I always seem to have tons to do. But isn't that part of owning a house?
I've also been asked if I ever take time to relax.
Why yes, I do. Certainly!
I think otherwise I would surely crash and burn.

Granted, I don't sit around all day watching TV on my day off. Unless, of course, I'm not feeling well.
But I do try to finish up my chores early enough that I can have time in the evenings to wind down.
On my days off, that usually means winding up the heavy duty chores around 4 or 5.
Just in time for a cocktail or a bath before dinner. Sometimes both.
When I'm working, it's usually a bit later, of course. But that can't be helped.
However, on workdays, I have my own system. I always do a few chores in the morning before work, so that when I come home, I have less to do.
I'll come home from work, let the pups out, and head out to the garden to water, weed, pick veggies, whatever needs to be done.
And there's always a little Chuck It time with the Monkey.
She sure loves her Chuck It!
After dinner, when the cleanup is done, and the dishwasher is humming away, sometimes there's time to end my evening like this.
This was last night. The moon was bright, the evening was gorgeous, and I got to spend a little quiet time with my daughters.
When the girls left me to head downstairs, the Monkey came out for a cuddle by the fire.
We sat in the dark, enjoying the fire, listening to the owls in the woods calling to each other.
The peepers were singing their sweet summer tune.
I could hear the creek gurgling away happily at the edge of my property.
And all was well in my world.
Sounds perfect to me.
ReplyDeleteIt was, Lisa. I felt so very fortunate to be in that moment.
DeleteLove this mom....my squish and her baby chuck it!!!!
ReplyDeleteSilly little Monkey!
DeleteNow that looks like the best way to end an evening.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt, Marty - it sure is!
DeleteWish I lived right next door to you so we could sit out there together. That is the cutest photo of the Monkey!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Well hop in that car of yours and head to NY, Brenda!
DeleteHow lovely to have a big deck with that beautiful firepit to relax on at night!
ReplyDeleteI love my firepit area, it's one of my favorite spots to hang out at night!
DeleteI love the sounds of the night...so different than during the day.
ReplyDeleteMost definitely! The birdsong in the mornings is unbelievable but the night noises steal my heart!
DeleteI love the way you relax. :) I love your deck and views. Ted and I would do our work and try to get done at a decent time, shower then have a nice dinner or evening out or sit on the porch. We used to work all the time...not so much any more..we do have a couple projects coming up. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteThat's so nice, Susie, you paint a pretty picture of your life with Ted!
DeleteOh, are the peepers out there? It certainly is spring then. We missed them by moving away before they came out in TN and I don't even know if they come out here.
ReplyDeleteThat fire looks good. I bet there's something about sitting around that at night with your daughters that helps you all to unwind, kind of like a campfire, isn't it?
The right mixture of work and play to you,
Dewena
You truly know it's spring when the peepers make their way out once more! One of my all time favorite sounds!!
DeleteI love sitting by a fire to unwind. I really wish my hubby would get the firepit set up and the rain would stop so I could actually use the thing. ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, I know you will get a chuckle out of this. I bought some gin to make your famous raspberry gin with some of the frozen raspberries that have taken over an entire drawer in my big upright freezer. Well...today was one of those days when I had to deal with a rather unpleasant person for 3 hours straight. The gin bottle got opened up and a bit of it was used in a nice gin and tonic with lime. Took the edge right off my day! ;)
Ha!! So, were you drinking the plain gin or did you break into the raspberry gin?
DeleteYou are a lucky, lucky woman.
ReplyDeleteI truly am. No doubt!
DeleteOMG! Your deck looks so cozy with that firepit! The rain finally stopped last night and we finally got to eat a meal out on the deck. The weather was perfect! Hoping to do it again tonight. Love this time of year. Deck therapy is the best!
ReplyDeleteIt's time to start dining outdoors here, too, Debbie - I was just thinking that earlier today!
DeleteWhat a fabulous way to end your day! Love your dog...she looks like a good companion and a lot of fun. I may have to make some raspberry gin when the berries are ripe. Looks like a bumper crop this year. xoxo
ReplyDeleteHa ha that sounds like a great way to use up some of those berries, Donna! :)
DeleteThe creek and the peepers and the occasional hoot of an owl ...perfect :)
ReplyDeleteThe creek and the peepers and the occasional hoot of an owl ...perfect :)
ReplyDeleteMost definitely, Deb. So peaceful!
DeleteYour deck time looks so beautiful and relaxing.
ReplyDeleteI admit I have dozed off a time or two out there, Laurie!
DeleteYou have a beautiful place and I am glad to hear that you take time to enjoy it! I had never heard of a chuck it toy before! Nancy
ReplyDeleteGreat gift for any dog lover!
DeleteLovely! Enjoy your sharing. You are very inspiring with all you accomplish around your home. A few questions: Do you leave your cushions out? How do you keep the outside living area clean, mine is a covered porch and even when it was screened stays so dirty. How do you deal with spiders, ants, etc.
ReplyDeleteHi! I do leave my cushions out, but honestly I never used the deck all winter so this year I may take them in for the winter. But honestly, when they get icky I just hose them off or give them a little scrub. Good as new! As for spiders and such? Well, I live in the country and bugs are just a fact of life! I could do without them for sure, but what can I do?
DeleteSounds like you've found yourself a little piece of heaven. Enjoy. You deserve it. ;0D
ReplyDeleteI am super excited to have a little time off coming up to truly enjoy it, Daisy Gurl!
DeleteYou're a busy body and I love it! :) Your deck and fire pit are beautiful, wishing I could relax there on a night after a hard day of gardening! Enjoy your weekend Mountain Mama! :)
ReplyDeleteYou will need to put a firepit on your new property for sure, Pamela!
DeleteIt doesn't get much better than that!
ReplyDeleteSo true, Barbara, so true...
