It's lovely to get away for a few days, isn't it?
But I think it's even lovelier to come home.
Even though you return to the mundane routine of everyday life....work, chores, dust-bunnies, errands....there's still no place like home.
Being away for a few days left me struggling to catch up in the office. This is my crazy busy season, and taking time off means working even harder when I return.
But, I soldiered on, and by the end of the week had pretty much gotten on top of the pile again.
I did end up having to go in over the weekend, but that couldn't be helped.
Meanwhile, when I have precious time at home, it's nice to make it feel like a special occasion.
Because, really and truly, it is the most amazing feeling, to be in a place that you love, where you find your peace.
Being away at a resort is lovely - there's staff everywhere, ready to cater to your every whim.
But it's difficult to find any place, amid all the loveliness, where you can be alone with your thoughts.
There are strangers everywhere you turn, which is fine for a while.
At home, you are just surrounded by the people you love, and those you invite into your home.
It's a whole different kind of peace.
I crave that peace.
My soul needs it to survive.
My home is far from perfect.
But it's mine, and I love it.
I'm so glad to be home.
Yes, I agree; a few days away for a break is okay, but ... "here's no place like home".
ReplyDeleteWith or without the red shoes ;-)
Ha ha, without a doubt, Valeria!
DeleteIt is good to get back home after some time away. Your place looks wonderful to me. Love your lighting and the table set for company.Blessings, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteThanks, Susie! That table was just set for us, for a family dinner. It's not that often we are all home together for dinner, as we are all so busy, so it was certainly a special occasion!
DeleteYour home looks lovely and peaceful. Happy to have you back! Miss your blog! Rhonda
ReplyDeleteAwww, thanks so much, Rhonda! I miss having a little more time for posting!
DeleteYour deck is so lovely at night. And of course in the daytime too. Oh what I'd give for that view.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
I am very blessed, Brenda, without a doubt!
DeleteNO PLACE LIKE HOME for sure and yours is so warm and friendly!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bernideen! I love a cozy, warm, welcoming space and my home feels like a hug when I get home!
DeleteYour home looks so warm and inviting - especially the night time pics with the lighting. I'm with you -- a get away is nice, but the peace of home is the best. When I come home after being away, I see it through new eyes and appreciate it even more!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the truth? I tend to spend time puttering around like crazy when I get home from a trip - I think I'm just so happy to be home.
DeleteI know that feeling too and I'm glad you're home all safe and sound. I love seeing your lovely home and I'm sure there were no dust bunnies hopping around! :)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Oh, believe me, there are certainly dust bunnies, Shelia! It's tough to keep on top of everything, isn't it?
DeleteThat is exactly how I feel about vacations, you said it perfectly!! :)
ReplyDeleteI think perhaps I'm all about staycations....except I tend to work too hard! So it's good for me to get away!!
DeleteYou home looks so warm and inviting and i agree, there is no place like home.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Marty! That's the biggest compliment I could possibly get!!
DeleteI agree there is nothing quite like the peace of home! I sometimes thing the best thing about vacation is a new appreciation for home when we walk back in the door.
ReplyDeleteVery true, Jen - there's so much about our homes that we create with love, it definitely beats any resort hands down!
DeleteTotally agree with you. I hope you're finding some time to sit out on that beautiful deck!
ReplyDeleteNot a ton these days, Melanie, although I do try to sneak in a half hour or so at night on my swing, when the night is quiet and cool.
DeleteLOVE the look of your deck at night all lit up! Very welcoming. xo
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's so nice to light a few candles and the fire pit and just relax out there - it quiets my mind!
DeleteI love your porch. I wished we could have lighting like that on ours. We don't have much privacy on either of our porches and it would be nice.
ReplyDeletePerhaps you can create some privacy with potted evergreens or vines on trellises?

ReplyDeleteOops...typos! I was just saying that you and I share the same sentiments of home. I love yours! It's so warm and inviting.
DeleteThanks, Laurie! I'm such a homebody - I'm sure my sweetie gets frustrated with me at times....oops!
DeleteOh, Debbie, I LOVE your home! Yes, there truly is no place like home. We are planning a long trip, and I really hope we can stand to be away for as long as we plan. We have so many places we want to see, and are taking this opportunity while we can, but we love our home for all the reasons you state. Welcome back!
ReplyDeleteI was away once for 5 weeks and by the end I just could not bear another day away from my home, Rita! I think I spent the whole night I came back just puttering around, cleaning, lighting candles, etc. I was never so glad to walk in my front door - and that was when I still lived in a little apartment in NYC!!
DeleteYour deck looks so relaxing and magical at night! I can see why it is such a great place to just sit, feel safe and unwind. :)

ReplyDeleteSafe as long as the bears stay away, Debbie!! :)
DeleteWe are on "Staycation" this week, because there's no place like home. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome, Debbie, the best kind of all....providing you let yourself relax!
