Creating A Dream Bedroom

Last week I wrote a post all about the Danish art of Hygge.

One of the most important places to practice the art of Hygge is in the bedroom, without a doubt. When you walk into your bedroom at the end of a long day, it should feel like a warm hug.

When I first toured my house, I knew I was going to have to do some work to create the master bedroom of my dreams.

I took two bedrooms at the back of the house and combined them to create one master suite, complete with fireplace, Jacuzzi tub, and dream closet.

Although it took quite a few months...as well as quite a few dollars...I have never regretted my decision and I absolutely love my master suite.

Not to mention, with two grown daughters living in the same house, it's great to have a quiet, clean, peaceful place that's all mine and completely off limits.

My escape. My haven.

Which is why I was so delighted when I was approached by Cultiver, a company that specializes in luxury linens, asking if I would be interested in a partnership.

Whenever I'm approached by a company that is looking to partner with me, I immediately go to their site to see if their products are something I would want in my home.

Without a doubt!

I always try to purchase the best linens I can for my bed. I have a hard enough time sleeping, I certainly need to do everything I can to make my bed as comfortable as possible!

However, I admit I had never tried linen bedding in the past, so I was most definitely intrigued by the products Cultiver offered on their site.

I selected simple white sheets and an extra set of pillowcases.

The linens arrived right before the weekend, and I was so excited to get them on the bed Saturday morning.

Before I even had a cup of coffee, I had that bed stripped, the washing machine loaded, and the new sheets on the bed.

I love that the top sheet is oversized. How many times have I purchased a set of Queen sheets, and the top sheet barely comes down over the mattress!

Something else I love is the fact that the pillowcases are envelope closure, just like in Europe. No open ends with a bare pillow peeking out.

It's truly the little things, you know?

When I felt how soft these sheets were I kind of regretted not also selecting a duvet cover or coverlet in the same linen. But I know how particular I am about my bed, so I was worried that any wrinkles in the top cover would bug me.

Seriously, I'm a weirdo. Once my bed is made, heaven forbid anyone sit on it - nope, not allowed, get off my bed!

I just love how crisp white sheets just feel so luxurious yet clean and restful.

It was all I could do not to crawl right into that bed and give them a try.

While I was at it, I cleared off the end tables and gave everything a good dusting.

I finished dressing the bed....and yes, it is still a winter wonderland outside my windows, so that pillow stays...for now.

The last thing I do after the bed is made is give everything a spritz with my absolute favorite linen spray.

It has notes of Sandalwood, Tuberose, Vanilla Bean, and Incense. It's the most wonderful scent, and is just the perfect finishing touch to my beautifully dressed bed.

It's pricey, so I save it for when I have a day off and can enjoy the scent throughout the day. Work days I use another linen spray, from The Honest Company, in a Lavender Vanilla scent.

Needless to say, I could not wait to crawl into bed that night!

And I was not disappointed - oh my gosh, I slept better than I had in ages, my fitbit said I got 7 hours 31 minutes....that's nearly unheard of for me these days!

The linen sheets from Cultiver were so soft and comfortable...I had a very hard time getting out of bed the next morning!

I wanted to wait until I slept on them for a few nights before writing a post and giving my review. Well, it's been three nights....and for three mornings I have lingered in bed just a little longer, enjoying how incredibly cozy and comfortable my bed is. Hygge, for sure!

Cultiver was written up in Architectural Digest as one of the places to buy the best linen online. I, for one, am convinced!

After three nights, yes there are more wrinkles in the sheets, as I expected, but it doesn't bother me even the tiniest bit.

I might just have to go back for that duvet cover after all....although I might never get out of bed again.

I think that's a chance I'll have to take!

    1. I tend to spend a lot of time in my bedroom, Marty, especially when the girls have friends or their boyfriends at the house. I can lock my door, crank up the gas fireplace, and sit in the chair by the window with a good book. Peace and tranquility!

  2. Sounds like it really impacted your sleep quality. Your bed is beautiful and it looks so soothing in there! Have you tried Melatonin? I had a doctor in TX that suggested I take 5 mg. of Melatonin and I've been taking it ever since.

    1. I take 4 mg of Melatonin every night, Brenda. It definitely helps, but there's usually a time in the wee hours I wake up and lay there tossing and turning until I finally fall back asleep. Even with the melatonin! I don't want to up the dosage or I'll never get up!

    1. Of course I'm sleeping soundly at the time my alarm is going off....it's the wee hours of the morning I have problems with, Dewena! It's very frustrating, and I'm grateful for anything that helps me get a good night's sleep.

  8. I've always loved your bedroom suite. In my dreams! We have no room to expand - and our room is only 12 x 15. Standard closet. We do have a small private bathroom though. Glad you are enjoying your new sheets!

    1. My bedroom itself is not very large, and if I hadn't taken over the bedroom next to it there would have been no attached bath at all! I knew when I first viewed the house I would have to do some work to make it my dream home, so I came back for a second walk through with my contractor and an architect friend to be sure it was possible before making an offer on the house.

    1. So true, Stacey, unless they are clean soft sheets that just came in off the line! I might have to find room to hang a clothesline this year....although I'm not sure my allergies will be happy!

    1. Our snow ALL melted over a few days of warm weather....then we got a weird thunderstorm that laid down an inch of ice and sleet....it was bizarre! We went from 67 to 37 degrees in about an hour!! Thanks, I love my bedroom, it wraps me up in a warm hug every time I walk in there!
