More Changes Around Here

It's well and truly spring in the mountains, which delights me to no end!

We had our first alfresco dinner, although the mayflies tried their best to chase us indoors. It's heavenly to be able to sit out in the evenings and end the day in my favorite way, sipping a cocktail on my porch swing.

Most of the flowers are planted, although I have a little tweaking to do this weekend.

The veggie seedlings are getting planted this weekend as well - it's going to be a busy weekend in the garden, no doubt.

Although I've been spending as much time outdoors as possible, I still managed to tackle another update indoors that needed to happen.

Because of this.

And this.

As well as many more spots of damage that I won't bore you with.

What is that, you ask?

Why, that's my dining room rug....which, unfortunately, is taking quite the beating from my dining room chairs.

I had tried to repair the damage myself, with no luck.

As much as I adored that rug, I decided it was time to start looking for a new one. The old one will go live with my older daughter, as she is moving to Rhode Island for graduate school and needs all the furnishings she can get.

I was dreading making the swap out, because the old rug was very large and went under the bar, the china closet, and the linen storage bench under the window.

The bench was easy to move, but the china closet and bar were a different story. I had to empty everything out of the china closet and lift one side at a time while my younger daughter pulled the rug out from underneath.

I decided to try leaving the bar as is without emptying it....and it worked! I was able to lift it enough to get the rug out, whew!

The old rug is in the garage waiting to go to its new home. I will miss it, for sure.

However, I have to say, I'm loving my new rug!

I buy all my rugs from RugsUSA - have you ever bought anything from them? The quality is amazing, the prices are incredibly low, and the rugs arrive within a couple of days.

Here's the link to the one I bought, but they have thousands of other rugs to choose from. This is not a sponsored post, by the way, I just love that company!

I wanted something neutral, as I love changing out my table linens with my mood, or the seasons.

Plus, it needed to coordinate with the living room rug, which is beige. And all my rugs have to be able to hide white dog hair.

In addition, I wanted something with texture, as I was really going to miss the nubby texture of the old rug.

My old girl, Lily, loved it straight away and settled in for a nap. Love that sweet old girl!

The morning sunshine is even more brilliant in my dining room now with the light colored rug.

I pray I can keep it stain free for as long as possible. I found a great stain remover lately, so I'm not as terrified as I used to be of a rug this color. Fortunately, they carry this stain remover in my local market, and it has worked brilliantly on some old set-in stains in the guest room - love this stuff! It's Oxy Clean's Carpet & Area Rug spray cleaner. Best I've tried, without a doubt!

Meanwhile, in other happy news, the lilacs are finally in bloom on the Mountain Top! I'm so thrilled to be able to gather a sweet bouquet for the table...it's just too bad they don't last longer, but I'll take it while I can.

What's making you happy these days?

  1. Debbie, you get so much done in a day! You make it all look easy. :)

Love your new, bright rug. I've spent hours on Rugs USA looking at rugs for our new house. The prices are so good but I'm just nervous to order online. Don't know why. I drive to HomeGoods every two or three days to see if they have anything new that I can't live without. So far..no luck.

Enjoy your outside/cocktail time. Sounds like heaven!

    1. I have not been disappointed with any of the rugs I bought on Rugs USA - they are wonderful quality, Stacey - I would say once you order one you will be so happy and go ahead and order the rest from them. Their prices can't be beat! I guess I'm lucky that Home Goods is about 45 minutes from me, otherwise I'd be there all the time, like you! :)

  2. My lilacs bloomed this year and that made me very happy! Your rug looks wonderful! I am afraid of too light of a color but you have to take your chances when it looks so good.

    1. I figure it's not that pricey, AnnMarie, so if I have it a few years and it gets destroyed it's not the end of the world. But hopefully it will last and last!!

    1. Thanks, Brenda! The bouquet is long dead, sadly, but there are still lilacs on the tree so I'm ok with that!

  4. Your deck is beautiful, so very cozy and inviting for a deck so grand.
I also have braided rugs, just not under the dining room table, I have a Persian rug there, and the reason being, I learned a long time ago, that chairs scooting back and forth across a braided rug, breaks down the thread which holds it all together. I'm sure your daughter will make good use of it in her college days.
Loving that new rug, it brightens up the entire room !

  7. Debbie, I like the way the new rug looks. I know what you mean about your daughter taking the old one. I am hanging onto things, because I think my grandson will be buying a house one day. Good work with your daughter on getting the old rug out. I hope your holiday weekend is a fun one and not all work. LOL. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. I have a garage full of things to send off with the girls when they move out, Susie! My older daughter is moving in just about two weeks, so some of the stuff will clear out....including the old rug. I'll miss her!

  8. The rug gives the room a whole new look. Love the texture...and Miss Lily napping on it. Your deck is just gorgeous...love the view. Lilacs are one of my favorite flowers but they never last long. Same way with peonies. Good luck to your daughter as she pursues her dreams.

    1. My peonies are budding, Donna, but I think it will be a week or more until bloom time. I love bringing peonies into the house....oh, that heavenly scent!

  10. Your new rug is beautiful! I would need a rug that would hide the brown hairs from Coco! I happy right now babysitting our beautiful new great granddaughter, Nora. She is laying here beside me. What a privilege to be able to watch her for a bit. Nancy

  11. Hi Deb. Love the new rug it looks so pretty. I would love to order rugs on line but I am afraid if the color is right on the computer. Those suckers are expensive to send back if you are not happy with it. I am like Stacey and go to Home Goods hoping to find a rug. So far no luck for me either for the new house. Glad you found one you love.

  13. I have purchased from RugsUsa before and have always been happy. I did have to send one back once though, just didn't look right in the room, and the return shipping was a killer. I used to buy all my rugs online from JC Penny. It was so easy, I would shop online, get free shipping and return to the store...for free...Enjoy your outside time!

    1. Oh yeah, I can just imagine what the shipping would be like to send back a rug! I had the same issue with the tables I ordered from Decor Steals....the shipping was almost as much as the refund I was going to get so my daughter is lucking out with those tables for her new home also! At least they are going to good use, and she needs all the help she can get setting up house.

  14. I have never ordered from RugsUSA but I've looked at their site before. I've only ordered a rug once online and that was from Overstock. Otherwise, I've purchased my rugs in-store at HomeGoods, IKEA and Target. I love your new one...it really lightens up the dining room.

I love this :) Beautiful rug and I love the set up on your deck! Can we make a deal that if you're ever near Harrisburg, you can come sit on my porch and if I'm ever in NY, I will come sit on your deck? Haha!

  16. Lily has the sweetest face! I'll keep that rug company in mind as we need some before next winter. Yours looks lovely in the room, luxurious looking. Well worth all that hard work. And thank you for the carpet cleaner suggestion. I took another suggestion from you and love it, now I can't remember the name--one of the face care products, the one for pores. As I have rosacea too, I bought it and am really liking it.

    1. Lily is the same, that's why I had to change out all the carpet downstairs! She's old, poor thing, she'll be 15 in September. She is only allowed upstairs with supervision....when I'm at work, the pups are downstairs in my daughter's room, which only has machine-washable throw rugs and pergo floors. We leave a giant potty pad on the floor just in case Lily has to go before I get home. She uses it, too! I think it has a scent in it that attracts them to the pad rather than the throw rugs. They are fantastic, I get them at Chewy.Com. Maybe that would help your Mini?

  18. That new rug does make a perfect napping spot for Lily. :) I do think she approves! Thank you for sharing what spot remover is working so well for you also. I am always on the lookout for good stain removers due to my little and big mess makers. Life with lots of males makes for lots of stains. ;)

    1. Ha ha, let me tell you my daughters can manage to make quite the mess around here, it's certainly not limited to males!!
