Despite the fact that it is still very much winter in our neck of the woods, the sun this past weekend was beyond glorious!
Combined with the change to the clocks for daylight savings time and this is one happy blogger!
The view out my bedroom window was stunning, blue skies, clear mountain view, happy horses...what could be prettier?
The sun was just pouring in, it was honestly hard to get anything done....I really wanted to be out soaking up some rays, but three feet of snow on the ground kept me indoors.
Plus, the house doesn't clean itself....laundry doesn't fold itself.....and cookies don't bake themselves, so I was, as always, one busy lady.
Every room was treated to a sun puddle at some stage, and I'm sure all the plants were happy for those warm sunbeams.
Especially in the guest bath, where the skylight is the only source of natural light and has been covered in snow for about 10 days now. There's finally an opening where it's starting to melt, which made both me and the plants smile!
The snow on the skylight in the kitchen hasn't melted yet, but that was actually ok....I was enjoying these twinkle lights I added this weekend to the top of the upper cabinets.
I seriously can't have enough twinkle lights in my house....are you the same?
My kitchen is certainly not shiny and new, but I adore it regardless - it's a cozy, warm space, which is truly my favorite kind of room.
My dining room always gets the best sun, with those glorious big corner windows. It's almost like dining in a sun room!
The wood stove is still working hard, keeping us warm day after day. I don't know what I would do without it, especially since our furnace broke down twice this winter so far.
I just love seeing the sunshine reflected off the wood floors! It's such a nice contrast to have both wood floors and area rugs in this home. The wood floors bounce around the light, and the rugs make it super cozy!
Little Miss Molly couldn't agree more! It's far cozier on the rug by the wood stove than it was in her cage outside in the elements, before she was rescued. My poor sweet tiny baby, I can't imagine how anyone could be so cruel.
I've been diffusing the combination of orange and pine essential oils so often lately - it seems the perfect scent for late winter, with the snow on the ground and the sun trying to warm the earth at the same time. If you want to find out more about my super cool diffuser and the oils I am obsessed with, check out this post!
Apparently we've got more snow on the way tonight, yikes....I could certainly do without it, but it's not up to me, is it? They are saying 4 - 8 inches....which is certainly better than three feet, but still. Enough.
Meanwhile I'll enjoy every ray of sunshine that works its way into my home, and at some point Spring will finally arrive to the mountain top and I will be in my glory!
I can't believe that yet more is on the way for you....saw it on the weather channel this morning. "Let the sunshine in" :)
ReplyDeleteDeb, it's insane - it's been snowing every single day!!! That would have been ok in Jan/Feb but oh my gosh enough already!
DeleteA sun puddle...that's such a lovely thought. I do love your positive outlook. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Stacey - I'm pretty lucky that I've always been a glass half full kind of person!!
DeleteWhat a HAPPY home you have. I too love twinkle lights. Give me all the sparkle.
ReplyDeleteI'm the very same way, I love all things sparkly and glittery and girly!!! Thank you, my home makes me very happy and I hope when people visit my home it makes them happy as well!
DeleteHi Debbie, your home is so warm and lovely! A place I would feel so welcome to sit down and have a cup of coffee with ya! Lots of pretty sunshine, even it's cold and snowy--spring can't be too far away so hang in there. Was so glad to find you on instagram, didn't even know you were on there, LOl--you have alot of good pictures on there.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debbi - you'd be most welcome for coffee any time!! I did a little more with Instagram this year than ever before, thanks to Suzan over at Simply Vintageous - she got me involved in this monthly challenge for February - and you know what? It was fun!! :)
DeleteI'm so excited too! Finally!
ReplyDeletehey where did u get your white bed frame from?
No sign of spring here yet, Ellen....just snow, snow, and more snow. Sigh.
DeleteYour home looks so warming and cozy. Im loving your skylight in the bathroom.
ReplyDeleteLisa
I love it also, Lisa. I knew as soon as I saw the house that I was going to have plants on those little ledges by the shower - it's like showering in a rain forest ha ha!!
DeleteYou home looks warm and cozy with the sun filtering. Who doesn't love some twinkle lights? Right?!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo happy Little Miss Molly has found a forever home with you. I don't get the cruelty out there either. Just happy she has a warm home and peeps that love her now. Have a great week.
Hugs,
Kris
She's just the sweetest baby, Kris - I'm so glad that the awful start to her life didn't ruin her personality. She's so sweet and so funny and just loves life! I swear she wears a permanent smile!!!
DeleteIt is always a treat to see glimpses of your lovely home and the sunshine makes it even lovelier and homier/happier.
ReplyDeleteHappy upcoming spring ~ FlowerLady
It's really hard to get anything done when the sun is shining like that, Lorraine! I want to be outside in the sunshine....if it wasn't for all the snow I would have been!
DeleteWhat a nice positive post! I love all your houseplants I have baby spider plants and need to get one potted up. We got a little more snow here today also but your right as spring will get here when it gets here. Nancy
ReplyDeleteThat's it, Nancy - we can't do a darned thing about rushing it along so we may as well just enjoy every day and what it brings us!
DeleteMiss Molly is adorable and looks very happy!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
She wears a smile on her cute little face all the time, Brenda! I'm just so glad fate brought her to our little furry family!
DeleteEnjoy that sunlight! It's been fleeting around here, too...and we were expecting major snow today (again!), but got away with a few inches. Whew. And the sun is peeking out, too. Spring may be on its way, yet!
ReplyDeleteSpring will be at your house way before mine, Kim! All I see in our forecast is more and more snow. Oh well, nothing I can do about it but keep shoveling!! :)
DeleteIsn't it AMAZING what the sunshine can do for your energy level and inspiration / motivation?!
ReplyDeleteIt really is, Rita!! What a difference it makes in the whole feel of a house and a person's attitude!!
DeleteSunshine is definitely a mood lifter! Even if it is frigid outside, the sun coming through the windows and making sun puddles (love your wording!) makes everything okay. Miss Molly is such a doll baby. There was a story on our news recently about some people (I use the term loosely) who took their ailing dog out into the woods and tried to shoot it in the head because they couldn't "afford" medical treatment. Unfortunately, the guy only shot off the dog's lower jaw. A good Samaritan found the dog and it has been treated and is ready for adoption. xoxo
ReplyDeleteOh Donna, this nearly made me cry - that poor sweet baby!!! I hope someone wonderful adopts him and gives him a wonderful, loving forever home!
DeleteI can sense your happiness with the sun right through your post! I am the same way with sunshine - it just boosts my mood so much. I'm greatly affected by the weather. Every room in your home looks so pretty. I am the same way with my kitchen - it might not be shiny and new, but it's cozy. And it's where family gathers and we make good food, so that's really what counts, right? xoxo
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what counts, Melanie!!! I would like to change out the counters someday to something easier to clean but other than that I don't think I'd change much!!
DeletePS - meant to comment about Molly, too. She is just so sweet and darling. Makes me sick to even think about anyone that would hurt or neglect an innocent animal. I'm so glad you rescued her.
ReplyDeleteMe, too, Melanie! She really is such a sweet baby and she seems to enjoy every second of life in her new home!! She's constantly playing with toys or munching on a bone or a stick or a cookie or getting cuddled like crazy.....she's definitely loving life with her new family and we absolutely adore her!
DeleteThe sunlight streaming in your home makes it all the more cozy. How fun to have it coming in from above through the skylights. I love it when that late afternoon sun comes into my house. It does highlight the dust on the wood floors but I too just love them with area rugs. It has been snowing here since last night and all day today. I stayed in and baked and finally got a blog post out. I just love staying home!
ReplyDeleteDust and dog hair in my house, AnnMarie!! That's why I have to do the floors every week, with three dogs there's no other choice. When I miss a week it drives me nuts! Oh I love a day in the house....it's so necessary to me, I think I am a bit of an introvert...and I'm ok with that!
DeleteI wondered if you are receiving my comments? Nancy
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy - I just got saw all your comments today, so sorry about that! I turned on comment moderation and didn't realize the comments are in a couple of different places....some get emailed to me, some just sit in a folder on the blog until I publish them...sorry again!
DeleteThe sun makes each of your room joyful, especially your dining-room, always a favourite of mine.
ReplyDeleteAnd a favorite of mine as well, Magali!
DeleteOh my, your furnace went out twice this winter? It's good you have the wood burner as a backup! I imagine Miss Molly enjoys the heat. I sure do wish houses would clean themselves! Maybe then mine would look more like yours, LOL
ReplyDeleteMine doesn't look much like that right now, Leigh - I was away this weekend so didn't get to do the floors and it shows! Three dogs in the house means if I skip a week of doing the floors it drives me nuts until I get to them!
DeleteYour home is lovely, and it looks so clean and cozy. Like you, I love seeing the sunlight reflecting off of my hardwood floors. I got out my hardwood floor cleaner the other day, and really went to town. When I was finished, I just stared at them, they looked so beautiful. My number two son gave me a diffuser for Christmas. I love that thing! I have been diffusing a mixture of Rosemary and lavender oils when I sleep at night, and inasmuch is I find it hard to believe, I am sleeping so much better since I started using it. Great post!
ReplyDeleteI am also sleeping so much better since I started diffusing oils at night, Pattie! My fitbit used to tell me I averaged about 4 1/2 hours a night, now I average 6 hours a night - that's a huge difference and really affects the way I feel and my productivity level!!!
DeleteWe had a late winter this year and although I'm ready for it to go, it's sticking around. Not three feet of snow kind of winter, but still.... I'm ready for spring!
ReplyDeleteGive that sweet Molly a kiss for me :)
xoxo,
rue
Apparently we are due for yet another storm tomorrow, Rue, and I am OVER it!!! I'm ready for spring and flowers and sunshine and NO MORE SNOW!!!!
DeleteLooks like you’re not going to see the dirt for a couple more weeks yet! I’m getting Mother Nature a calendar for Christmas. Or maybe I better not wait that long?
ReplyDelete(Yeyyyy, no more pop ups!).
xxx
I'm hoping we might possibly see a little dirt or a blade of brown grass by the end of this week, Doreen - we're supposed to get some warmer weather and I am so excited to see some of this snow MELT and get the heck out of here!!!
