Grateful, Thankful, Blessed

It's hard to believe it's only November and we've had snow more than once already!

Last Thursday's storm dumped over a foot of snow on our little mountain top.

This morning we woke to a winter wonderland once again, and it's pretty much been snowing off and on all day.

I'm not complaining, I love snow. Shoveling? Not so much. But it sure does look pretty!

It has certainly inspired me to start transitioning from autumn decor to winter decor. How could I not when it doesn't feel a bit like autumn around here?

Most of the pumpkins are gone from my decor, with the exception of the one in the kitchen window that reads "Grateful, Thankful, Blessed."

That one had to stay until after Thanksgiving, along with the two little turkey votive holders on the windowsill.

I truly am grateful, thankful, and blessed.

I am so grateful for my little house that keeps me snug and warm on these cold winter nights.

Night falls early these days, by the time I get home from work it's already dark.

I turn on all my little twinkle lights and settle into my cozy warm home, puttering around getting ready for a peaceful evening.

The fire needs tending before I start dinner, and the pups need to go out.

Little Miss Molly doesn't love going out in the cold...I guess winter's not her favorite time of year. Sweetie bought her a nice fleece jacket at LL Bean last week, but of course it's a struggle to get her to stand still long enough to put it on her.

Silly little thing she is!

Dinner is often comfort food on these cold winter nights. Last night I made spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread. Doesn't get much better than that on a cold night!

The only negative to all this snow is that it's covering my solar panels so they aren't producing at the moment. That's ok, I knew that would happen. They just got turned on last night, and I got the monitoring software on my phone today.

I'm a little obsessed with it, and can't wait to see those numbers as the snow melts and the panels start saving me money!

You can't see them from the front of the house, they are on the south side. From what I understand, snow melts pretty quickly from solar panels, so unless we get a huge storm it shouldn't be much of an issue.

It's awfully hard to climb out of this cozy bed in the mornings, that's for sure! I open my drapes and no longer see Papa's Garden full of flowers, yet it has its own beauty in winter.

I am truly blessed to be surrounded by such beauty, and I am ever so grateful and thankful to live in this peaceful place.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my wonderful readers - I truly hope you have something in your life that brings you joy and peace.

  4. Look at all your snow! Wow! I just got rid of my pumpkins that I had on display outside. I hacked them up with a shovel and put them out for the chickens, but frozen pumpkin just doesn't have much of an allure. Your bedroom is decorated so nicely! -Jenn

    1. My daughter had carved two pumpkins, which I guess now are buried under the snow! I wish I still had chickens, maybe I will again someday! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Jenn!

    1. It's been snowing every day, which keeps things nice and white and pure looking but doesn't help my solar panels much, ha ha!! Happy Thanksgiving, Carol!

  11. Happy Thanksgiving, Debbie. That snow looks beautiful when you have no obligations, but I know you do. Wondering....does Bee have a scraper, shovel attachment??

    1. Happy Thanksgiving to you as well, Rita! Fortunately I drive a Subaru with studded snow tires so I get around in the snow just fine. Bee does not have a shovel attachment, but I have a plowing contract with a local man who comes and plows me out. I usually work from home until he gets me plowed out, and then go into the office to do anything I wasn't able to do from home. It works out ok! Sweetie used the snowblower to blow off the patio, the path, and some of the deck...he's so good to me, he did it while I was at work, such a nice surprise to come home to! And this was after he spent hours at his own house clearing snow!

  12. I really dread the winter months but I have to say living in the Mountains the snow looks so beautiful. You will love when those panels are able to start to help with your electricity. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving.

    1. Hi Kris,

I don't like shoveling snow but I sure do like looking out at it! I guess I just have to look at it as a forced workout, which I sure need after that great Thanksgiving dinner! Hope you had a wonderful holiday!

  13. Happy Thanksgiving Debbie to you and your family!
Nice pics - like you we've had 2 snow events as well. Trying to see the beauty, but I hate driving in this so so much....I would never dream of going anywhere without snow tires. Its the ice that terrifies me.
    Take care

    1. Yes, there's nothing you can do on ice, that's for sure Jeannette, it's terrifying for sure. I drive a Subaru (all wheel drive) plus I have studded snow tires. We swap them onto the car in November and off in April - it's amazing what a difference that makes!

  15. You definitely have more snow than we do! Ours is still lingering though, probably because it has been single digits here. I too am thankful for my home in this cold weather, although I wish it were warmer inside than 68 degrees. My husband likes to conserve :-)

    1. I'm with hubby, AnnMarie! I keep my bedroom set at 60, which is sometimes even too warm for me (hello hot flashes!) I have flannel sheets and a down comforter on the bed, so I'm toasty and warm even while conserving. Of course, the woodstove does an amazing job keeping the rest of the main floor warm and toasty - the other day it was up to 75, I was sweltering and had to open a window!! :)
