I have been approached by guest bloggers more times than I can count, and have always declined. I feel as if my readers come here to read my various ramblings, and find out what's going on up here on the mountain top. However, when Aimee from DIY Darlin' approached me, I asked her to send along what she had in mind, because I thought it was something that would interest many of you. Let's face it, I'm all about how to save money, not just at the holidays but all year long....that's how I managed to cut my budget wayyyy down, after all!
So let's hop on over and see what Aimee's tips are for saving money at Target!

Santa Saves at Target, and So Can You
When Jolly Old St. Nick wants to deck his
halls, he and the Misses grab their REDCard and head to Target. Everyone’s
favorite place to buy blankets and bowls is transformed every winter into a
wonderland of deals. But despite an already great value, there are a few ways
to avoid paying the same price as the humbugs of the season. Keep reading for
insider tips and tricks.
Start
with the Markdowns
Target is like any other mass retailer; they
do not want their stock to stick around on the shelves for too long. According
to savvy shoppers, Target has a predictable, if unofficial, markdown schedule. Once prices start to drop,
they can bottom out at 90 percent off before going to salvage. With a little
bit of luck, you can find something fantastic for pennies on the dollar.
Use the
Cartwheel App and REDCard for Stacked Savings
According to Rakuten’s 17 Tips for Saving at Target, the retailer’s
Cartwheel app is just about the quickest and easiest way to find great deals.
Through the app, you’ll have access to store-exclusive savings. When coupled
with the REDCard, you’ll enjoy two discounts in one.
If you are not familiar, REDCard is Target’s
credit card. It’s unique in the sense that you don’t have to collect points to
cash them in later; instead, you will automatically see a 5 percent savings on virtually every in-store
and online purchase.
A small word of caution here, however, is that
using a credit card does not save you money unless done so responsibly. Credit
scoring agency Experian notes that carrying a balance can add up quickly in interest fees. Considering
that the APR is 20+ percent, carrying a balance for a single month can
counterbalance any savings you saw at the cash register.
Trade
in Your Old Merch.
Have you ever wondered how Mr. Claus affords
new video games and consoles each year? It is (ostensibly) because he collects
all of the unwanted tech toys to trade in for a Target gift card.
Get to
Know the Price-Matching Guarantee
Target is known for its competitive pricing.
However, that does not mean that other retailers do not occasionally undercut
their pricing model. Never fear, because Target stores are happy to offer you
the same price. There are a few restrictions, though. First, it must be an
identical item with the same UPC number. Next, price-matching doesn’t
pertain to refurbished, clearance, or other certain selling scenarios. You also
won’t be granted your desired savings between Black Friday and December 7 for the 2019 shopping season.
To request a price match, you will need to
present a current ad displaying an approved competitor’s price. They will also
price match many online retailers, including Amazon, but items must be sold by
the website, not through a third party.
Ask
About Upcoming Sales
Finally, there is no shame in upping your
shopping game by making friends with the red shirts. Although they may not be
aware of all upcoming promotions, it’s perfectly fine to ask about the
potential for future markdowns. Always be polite and friendly, and make a point
to say “thank you” even if you don’t get the answer you are looking for.
Remember, Santa is watching, and you don’t want to be left with coal in your
stocking on Christmas day.
Just because you’ve never seen reindeer in the
parking lot does not mean Christmas magic doesn’t happen behind the bullseye.
You can enjoy great prices, showcase your holiday spirit, and put a little
twinkle in your eyes by using the money-saving tips above.
