Mindful

There have been a number of bloggers out there writing of "words" they select for the year ahead. Honestly, I never do that, and I had no intention of doing it this year either.

Until I read Stacey's blog post yesterday.  Have you met Stacey over at Poofing the Pillows? Not only is she a kind and wonderful person but her blog is ever so inspiring!

Stacey wrote a post about her word of the year for 2016. And at the end she asked her readers to share their word of the year.

Immediately my thoughts went to "mindful."  And that word stuck in my brain and lodged itself there, good and proper.

And I woke up thinking about it this morning.

Isn't that what I've been trying to do with my goals for 2016? To sum it all up in one word, am I not trying to be more mindful?

Mindful of what I eat.

Mindful of my body and it's needs.

Mindful of knowing exactly where my food comes from.

Mindful of living a more simple life, bringing it back to basics.

Mindful of taking time for me.

Mindful of my spending.

Mindful of the earth and how we respect it.

Mindful of the people around me and their thoughts and feelings.

Mindful of the beauty to be found all around me in simple, everyday moments.

So I guess I officially have a word for 2016.

And you know what? I'm excited!

It's a very, very good word.

Mindful.

  1. Excellent choice of words! I think choosing a word to set the goals for the year is much better than making resolutions.

  2. I think it is an excellent choice for a "word" for the year. Sometimes we get so caught up in life, that we forget to be mindful of others and of ourselves! Love it! Hugs!

  3. Woo hoo! Thanks for the shout out. :)

I'm proud of you for being purposeful about this because it's important to you. Now let's make a pact...in 30 days when we start to forget, let's remind each other. ok?

  6. I used to gloss over those "one word posts" too. Then, I thought more about it and realized it actually is so much better than "resolutions" which I always manage to blow off before the 10th of January. Summing up what I want to achieve in one word for the new year really does work. I put my word on mirrors, on the fridge, in my wallet, inside my journal, on my bedside table, in the car, and when I worked I posted it in my office in a few places.
Having my word does seem to keep me on track. When someone else notices it ~ where I have taped it up, or put on a bully board, or in my car ~ and if they ask about it, it always starts a great and usually a thoughtful conversation as well. I hope your word will help you throughout this new year!!

  7. Mindful, seems to be a powerful word. I chose de-clutter for my word this year...oh boy do I need it. I hope your word will stick with you this year and it might help if we all used it , at least here and there. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  10. I was so struck by this post. All of your points are things that are important to me too. These are simple sane things, aren't they?

Best to you in 2016 as you practice mindfulness. Mind if I join you?

P.S. I've scribbled down your meatloaf recipe. It probably won't be as good as yours because I probably won't manage to make your wonderful tomato sauce!

    1. That tomato sauce is absolutely the easiest sauce in the world to make - perhaps you will give it a shot? And yes, please join me as we practice mindfulness!
