I'm very fortunate to have a dedicated guest room in my little house. It doesn't get much use, but it sure is nice to know it's there when I need it.
It's also the home of the Big Green Monster.
Well, remember I told you all about Country Curtains going-out-of-business sale?
I think I was one of their best customers during the sale, I took advantage, that's for sure!
I decided it was time to update the window coverings in the guest room before all the good inventory was gone.
I actually loved the little polka dotted sheers that were in the guest room, they made me smile. But they offered no privacy for my guests, that's for sure. That wasn't much of a problem in the summer months when the leaves are on the trees, but in the winter my house can be seen from the road.
So, I placed an order for a lovely set of drapes. And I waited....and waited....and waited. I finally reached out to customer service at Country Curtains and unfortunately they were not available.
Oh boy, ok, back to the website to see what else I could find.
I kept being drawn in by this one particular pattern....and finally I decided to pull the trigger and say a prayer it wasn't back-ordered or discontinued.
So, I settled in and waited....and waited....and waited. I kept checking my account online and the order said pending....oh no. What now?
Just when I was about to get in touch with them again (insert angry face here!) the packages arrived on my doorstep!
Oh my gosh, yayyyy, yippeee, I was so excited!
I know, I'm lame, what can I say.
The problem was my back was not cooperating. I threw it out during a mad cleaning spree, and I was in a ton of pain.
The guest room refresh was going to have to wait. Sigh.
But it's finally done now....and I want to show you how lovely it is! Wait, I lied...it's not really done, it still needs some art on the walls....but remember how long it took me to hang art in the living room? Yup, this will take a while as well, no doubt. Don't hold your breath.
But here she is, all dressed up!
Isn't she purty?
I kept the palette neutral with pops of pink. For some reason I just love pink in this room...it goes so well with the Big Green Monster.
I just love, love, love the new drapes and the matching shams. They are feminine and 'girly' but seem so grown up at the same time! Unlike my sweet polka dotted sheers, which were just super playful and cute.
The drapes look amazing with the Big Green Monster, the green of the leaves plays off perfectly with the chippy green monster.
I hung these drapes with clip rings as well, just like I did with all the new drapes. I just love the way the clip rings take the drapes to another level.
What? I already told you how lame I am, don't act surprised now!
I kept one little playful touch in the room with the addition of this pink fluffy throw pillow. How cute is that....I just love it!
So, I still need to find some art for the walls....and add a throw at the end of the bed...but this room just makes me smile every time I open the door now!
I have my eye on a floral canvas over at Wayfair...don't be surprised if one of these days I'm showing you that piece on that empty wall!
Now all I need are the guests! Any takers?

Happy Holidays to all my wonderful readers out there in Blogland - I truly hope you have a blessed and peaceful holiday season!

I love the big green monster. That's some piece of work. The drapes do the room the monster justice. Your home is just lovely. And "homey". So nice.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you, Monica
Thank you so much, Monica!! You are too kind! That monster has been with me in 4 homes already, and it's a piece I just can't give up!! Merry Christmas to you as well!!
DeleteI just love the big Green Monster!
ReplyDeleteI do also, Karen Ann, and it adds so much great storage which is a huge plus! I still find it hard to believe someone was just giving it away, but one man's trash is another man's treasure, right?
DeleteAwww I love your home <3 I think I say that every time too lol but I do.
ReplyDeleteAwwww, thanks Ellen! I think that's because we have similar decorating styles!!
DeleteI was waiting to go to Country Curtains after our remodel (only live 20 mins from a store) but after your notice I jumped on it sooner. I bit the bullet and shopped for every room in the house. What I couldn't find pre-made I bought the fabric and will begin after the holiday's. Had major surgery so I'm off of work for awhile and
ReplyDeletewill spend that time sewing....... Your drapes look fantastic and they are far superior to anything I've seen in the stores. CC will be missed!! Have a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year!! Patti
Oh, I'm sorry to hear about the surgery, I do hope you are well on the mend now!! I'm glad you hit up CC before it was too late, it would be such a shame to lose out on all those great deals! Right now everything in stores and online is $50 or less and they are closing the doors Dec 28th - so sad! You're fortunate that you live so close to the store to go in person and not only save on shipping but also you get to actually see what's in stock! Feel better, Patti, sending healing thoughts and prayers your way!
DeleteOh I love it. What a great room for guests, so inviting.
ReplyDeleteI spent months in that room while my master suite was under renovation, Marty - it's such a cozy space, the toastiest room in the house in winter as it's right over the utility room. I slept very well in that room, no doubt!
DeleteMe!! I'll be your guest anytime :) And I want to know more about Big Green Monster. I love it.
ReplyDeleteAny time, Courtney, you'd be most welcome!!! You can learn more about the Big Green Monster in this post:

Merry Christmas to you and your lovely family - enjoy your time at the cabin!
I wish I could visit you! I love the guest room. So cozy and comfy. And I love all your new drapes. Like icing on the cake of your home!
ReplyDeleteBrebda
I wish you could visit me, too, Brenda!! I'd love to meet you and Charlie & Abi in person! Pile everyone in your car and head North...I'll put the coffee on!
DeleteSign me up, I'd love to spend the night in such a lovely room.
ReplyDeleteLet me know when you'll be swapping out your mountains for my mountains, Carole - you'd be very welcome!!
DeleteLooks so cozy cute!
ReplyDeleteI love how you have the linens placed. Simply beautiful.
Lisa
Thanks, Lisa! I like having glass doors on my linen storage, it's something I always wanted. In a previous house I had an old metal cabinet in my bathroom with glass doors that I bought for $25 at a yard sale. I painted it, changed out hardware, and stored towels and pretty bathroom items in it - I loved it! Now it's downstairs holding extra tablecloths and candles. Every bit of extra storage helps, right?
DeleteI can definitely see why pink goes nicely with the monster...that shade of green practically begs for it! The drapes look lovely and more 'wintry' than the sheers. Since you don't need privacy in the summer, will you switch them out?
ReplyDeletexxx
I guess it depends on whether I'm tired of them by that time, Doreen! They could work in summer also, they'd help keep out the sun and the heat....not that we have a ton of heat up here, mind you!
DeleteThat is a lovely room! Love love love your new curtains...so so pretty! And the fluffy pink pillow just sets the whole thing off perfectly.
ReplyDeleteAwww, thanks so much, I think so also!! I just want to curl up and pet that pillow, ha ha!!
DeleteSo cozy.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Regine! It's a comfortable room, that's for sure. Not much storage for a guest to use, but I guess what do they need if they are only staying a night or two? I have hooks on the back of the door...it works!
DeleteThose curtains are just what you needed in that room. It looks so cozy and ready for anyone to visit. I might want to visit. LOL
ReplyDeleteHa ha just let me know what day and time, Carol, and I'll be ready!! :)
DeleteBig green monster - KEEPER! I've always longed for one, but haven't found it yet. You are so lucky to have it. The drapes look so amazing, love the look of the room! You will find the right art in time.
ReplyDeleteThat big green monster has been with me for about 10 years now, I'd guess - I've never painted it or anything, it came just like that. A good cleaning and it was good to go! I love it - you can't see from the photo, but the shelves inside are lined with pink polka dotted shelf paper!
DeleteMerry Christmas, Debbie. I would love to sleep in that gorgeous guest bedroom. It looks like the stuff dreams are made of, especially with that view looking into the woods outside.
ReplyDeleteYou can't see from these photos, Rita, but you have a lovely view of the horses next door, their little red barn, and the mountains beyond - I guess that's one of the reasons I always had sheers on the windows, not to block that awesome view!
DeleteI really and truly love that big green monster and am glad you kept it. The drapes look wonderful with it. The whole room is lovely. Job well done.
ReplyDeleteHappy Christmas ~ FlowerLady
I could see that big green monster nestled quite happily in Plum Cottage, Lorraine! I guess we have similar tastes, don't we? Must be the gardeners in us, kindred spirits! Happy Christmas to you as well!
DeleteGirl!!!! How many times did I say I would surely make a reservation? I love that room. I know if I stay, and then I have to leave, the Big Green Monster might be in the back of my truck. Wonderful job Debbie. Merry Christmas!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck lifting that big green monster, Cindy!! I think my movers nearly had a heart attack when they first saw it....luckily it comes apart into two pieces, whew! Merry Christmas to you as well, Cindy!
DeleteMe, me, me... pick me to stay in your awesome guest room! I love the new drapes and shams, which go so well with that gorgeous monster. I am still so sad that our house wasn't built in time to take advantage of Country Curtains closing sale, but I'm glad you were able to. I think I know the picture you are considering from Wayfair, and in my humble opinion I say go for it! I hope you have a very merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteAny time, Vickie!! Yes, it's too bad you weren't able to take advantage of the sale...it's over on Dec 28th, everything now is $30 and under, believe me it's all I can do not to buy out everything under the sun! Merry Christmas to you as well, Vickie!
DeletePut me on the guest list! I would love to see your home in person. You have given me so many ideas to make my home as homey as yours.
ReplyDeleteOh I'm so glad, Cathy, that's awesome to know that my home inspires you!!
DeleteThe new drapes are gorgeous! I love that color green with pink. We had a Country Curtains store near us but I never needed them. So sad now that they are closed.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me so sad also, AnnMarie. I remember visiting their store at the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge, MA. I think that was their first store, it was all I could do not to max out my credit card, ha ha!!
DeleteI am on my way to stay in your pretty guest room. Love those drapes from Country Curtains. I am sad they went out of business. We had a store near me here in Illinois. I loved to go in there for drapes. I tired to get some drapes for my bedroom with their going out of business sale and I had a problem like you had. I never received mine. I even tried to call the store for help and they could not do anything either. Such a mess. Glad you got yours. Have a great Christmas.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kris
I never got the first pair, Kris, but that's ok, I'm happy with the ones I ended up with! That's too bad yours didn't work out - there's still time, everything is $30 or less now! Merry Christmas to you as well, Kris!! xo
DeleteJob well done. I have two of those rooms that don't get much use but at least I know they are here if I have guest!
ReplyDeleteThis one doesn't get much use, either, Pam, but it sure came in handy when my parents' house flooded last year and they needed to stay with me for 3 weeks! And yes, same here, I am happy to have it for anyone who may want to stay!
DeleteLove this room. So cozy! I'm packing a bag! ;) I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas, Mountain Sister!!
ReplyDeleteYou'd be most welcome, Mountain Sister! Merry Christmas to you and David and His Royal Highness as well!!
DeleteYou hit the nail on the head with choosing these curtains and shams for the guest room! They go with the Green Monster perfectly. I'd love to be a guest in that room. I'm almost ready to pack up and start the road trip right now, lol. The best part would be meeting you in person, of course though. :-)
ReplyDeleteSame here, Melanie! The only blog friend I’ve met yet is Doreen, and it was amazing to spend the day with her!
DeleteYour guest room looks lovely and inviting!! Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Patti - and happy holidays to you as well!!
DeleteGlad to hear that what you ordered finally arrived / it all looks wonderful and very inviting :)
ReplyDeleteIt took its sweet time, that’s for sure, Deb! But you know what? It was worth the wait!
DeleteYour guest rooms looks great! I do love those curtains and shams very much. The big green monster is fun too. Love that color of green.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas girl!
Thanks, Stacey! I guess I liked that color so much I never was even tempted to paint it! The inside is a deep red with pink polka dot shelf paper - cute!
DeleteIt is beautiful! I love the draperies! Isn't it amazing what a big difference something like that can make to a room. Like everyone else, I love the big green monster. It is a wonderful built-in, you are lucky to have it. Enjoy it. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteNew curtains or drapes can totally change the look of a room, no doubt, Pattie! Same with a new shower curtain and a couple of matching towels - makes the whole bathroom feel new! Merry Christmas to you as well!
DeleteI'm in love with your big green monster! It's a great focal point and gives you tons of storage space. Your new curtains and pillow shams really warm up the room and I'm sure any guest would feel comfy and cozy in your guest room. Well done!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you and your family, Debbie!
The big green monster would have been a great focal point in the main living part of the house, Vickie, but unfortunately since it’s soooooo huge there was no place that worked well for it, sigh. Oh well, it’s perfect in the guest room to hold linens and extra blankets! Merry Christmas to you as well!
DeleteMe, me, me!! I want to be a guest! I love your green monster. Always have and now I love it even more with those new curtains and shams. Beautiful. Merry Christmas, Debbie, to you, your girls, your sweetie and your pups!
ReplyDeleteAny time, my friend, just let me know when to get those infused cocktails ready!! Merry Christmas to you and your lovely family as well!
DeleteOh my, your guest room is so welcoming and lovely. I love your new curtains and shams. What a wonderful difference they make. I like you big green monster too! Just my style.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Leigh! Isn’t it wonderful to ‘rescue’ a piece of furniture and love it so much? I have many other rescue pieces in my home, going back to when I was a very young mom and refinished my first yard sale find! When I got divorced I left all the furniture with my ex except for all the pieces I rescued - they were the only ones I actually cared about! Merry Christmas to you and yours, Leigh!
DeleteThe curtains go nicely with the green hutch/monster. I think some floral art would look perfect here. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, Magali! I keep hoping some will just fall into my lap, like fate, but I guess I'm going to have to make it happen!!
DeleteThe room looks beautiful and so inviting! I love the choice you made. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debbie - and I hope you had a very Merry Christmas as well!
DeleteYour guest room is so charming, Debbie. I've got a major crush on the green monster. What a great piece! xo
ReplyDeleteEveryone has a crush on the big green monster!! It truly is a great piece, I was very lucky!
DeleteI had no idea Country Curtains was going out of business. Seems like they have been around forever! Your curtains look great with you big green monster! Very sweet room.
ReplyDeleteI think yesterday was their very last day, Jill! So sad, they were such a wonderful company - just couldn't compete with the big box stores any more!
