The Guest Room Is All Grown Up!

I'm very fortunate to have a dedicated guest room in my little house. It doesn't get much use, but it sure is nice to know it's there when I need it.

It's also the home of the Big Green Monster

Well, remember I told you all about Country Curtains going-out-of-business sale?

I think I was one of their best customers during the sale, I took advantage, that's for sure!

I decided it was time to update the window coverings in the guest room before all the good inventory was gone.

I actually  loved the little polka dotted sheers that were in the guest room, they made me smile. But they offered no privacy for my guests, that's for sure. That wasn't much of a problem in the summer months when the leaves are on the trees, but in the winter my house can be seen from the road.

So, I placed an order for a lovely set of drapes. And I waited....and waited....and waited. I finally reached out to customer service at Country Curtains and unfortunately they were not available.

Oh boy, ok, back to the website to see what else I could find.

I kept being drawn in by this one particular pattern....and finally I decided to pull the trigger and say a prayer it wasn't back-ordered or discontinued.

So, I settled in and waited....and waited....and waited. I kept checking my account online and the order said pending....oh no. What now?

Just when I was about to get in touch with them again (insert angry face here!) the packages arrived on my doorstep!

Oh my gosh, yayyyy, yippeee, I was so excited!

I know, I'm lame, what can I say.

The problem was my back was not cooperating. I threw it out during a mad cleaning spree, and I was in a ton of pain.

The guest room refresh was going to have to wait. Sigh.

But it's finally done now....and I want to show you how lovely it is! Wait, I lied...it's not really done, it still needs some art on the walls....but remember how long it took me to hang art in the living room? Yup, this will take a while as well, no doubt. Don't hold your breath.

But here she is, all dressed up!

Isn't she purty?

I kept the palette neutral with pops of pink. For some reason I just love pink in this room...it goes so well with the Big Green Monster.

I just love, love, love the new drapes and the matching shams. They are feminine and 'girly' but seem so grown up at the same time! Unlike my sweet polka dotted sheers, which were just super playful and cute.

The drapes look amazing with the Big Green Monster, the green of the leaves plays off perfectly with the chippy green monster.

I hung these drapes with clip rings as well, just like I did with all the new drapes. I just love the way the clip rings take the drapes to another level.

What? I already told you how lame I am, don't act surprised  now!

I kept one little playful touch in the room with the addition of this pink fluffy throw pillow. How cute is that....I just love it!

So, I still need to find some art for the walls....and add a throw at the end of the bed...but this room just makes me smile every time I open the door now!

I have my eye on a floral canvas over at Wayfair...don't be surprised if one of these days I'm showing you that piece on that empty wall!

Now all I need are the guests! Any takers?

Happy Holidays to all my wonderful readers out there in Blogland - I truly hope you have a blessed and peaceful holiday season!

  4. I was waiting to go to Country Curtains after our remodel (only live 20 mins from a store) but after your notice I jumped on it sooner. I bit the bullet and shopped for every room in the house. What I couldn't find pre-made I bought the fabric and will begin after the holiday's. Had major surgery so I'm off of work for awhile and
will spend that time sewing....... Your drapes look fantastic and they are far superior to anything I've seen in the stores. CC will be missed!! Have a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year!! Patti

    1. Oh, I'm sorry to hear about the surgery, I do hope you are well on the mend now!! I'm glad you hit up CC before it was too late, it would be such a shame to lose out on all those great deals! Right now everything in stores and online is $50 or less and they are closing the doors Dec 28th - so sad! You're fortunate that you live so close to the store to go in person and not only save on shipping but also you get to actually see what's in stock! Feel better, Patti, sending healing thoughts and prayers your way!

    1. I spent months in that room while my master suite was under renovation, Marty - it's such a cozy space, the toastiest room in the house in winter as it's right over the utility room. I slept very well in that room, no doubt!

    1. Thanks, Lisa! I like having glass doors on my linen storage, it's something I always wanted. In a previous house I had an old metal cabinet in my bathroom with glass doors that I bought for $25 at a yard sale. I painted it, changed out hardware, and stored towels and pretty bathroom items in it - I loved it! Now it's downstairs holding extra tablecloths and candles. Every bit of extra storage helps, right?

  10. I can definitely see why pink goes nicely with the monster...that shade of green practically begs for it! The drapes look lovely and more 'wintry' than the sheers. Since you don't need privacy in the summer, will you switch them out?

    1. I guess it depends on whether I'm tired of them by that time, Doreen! They could work in summer also, they'd help keep out the sun and the heat....not that we have a ton of heat up here, mind you!

    1. That big green monster has been with me for about 10 years now, I'd guess - I've never painted it or anything, it came just like that. A good cleaning and it was good to go! I love it - you can't see from the photo, but the shelves inside are lined with pink polka dotted shelf paper!

    1. You can't see from these photos, Rita, but you have a lovely view of the horses next door, their little red barn, and the mountains beyond - I guess that's one of the reasons I always had sheers on the windows, not to block that awesome view!

  21. I am on my way to stay in your pretty guest room. Love those drapes from Country Curtains. I am sad they went out of business. We had a store near me here in Illinois. I loved to go in there for drapes. I tired to get some drapes for my bedroom with their going out of business sale and I had a problem like you had. I never received mine. I even tried to call the store for help and they could not do anything either. Such a mess. Glad you got yours. Have a great Christmas.
