I have a very exciting weekend in the kitchen planned....what, that doesn't sound exciting to you? Well, if you're any sort of a foodie you'll understand what I mean.
I've been drooling over a few recipes out there in blog land, and have a number of things planned to create in my little country kitchen this weekend.
What's on my list, you ask? Why, just all of these wonderful items!
Caramelized Onion And Blue Cheese Galette |
Kevin Lee Jacob's Caramelized Onion And Blue Cheese Galette has been calling my name since the moment I laid eyes on it on his amazing blog, A Garden For The House. I have never made my own pastry dough, but his detailed tutorial on making Pate Brisee in this post makes it seem pretty idiot proof, so I'm going to give it a try! It's a good thing my sweetie likes my experiments!
Perfect Black Bean Burgers |
I also made his Perfect Black Bean Burgers last week and they were AMAZING!!! I made this chipotle mayo from Feasting At Home to serve with them, and it was the perfect accompaniment, along with a little lettuce and sliced onion. Yummm!
Vegetarian Bean Burgers |
I'm very excited to try Kevin's Vegetarian Bean Burgers next - don't they look absolutely scrumptious? I'm a sucker for a good veggie burger! I might whip up the puree for these this weekend, for a quick and easy midweek meal.
Next experiment? Making my own pizza dough.
Nunu's Pizza |
I have been absolutely craving homemade pizza for eons....but my market doesn't carry the bags of refrigerated dough any more.
Plus, it can't be that hard to make my own, right? And I'm sure it will be better than anything I buy in the store, anyway! The last few times I did buy the dough, it didn't rise as it should....maybe it was sitting in the store too long?
Anyway, I found this recipe by Bobby Flay online, and it seems fairly straightforward....wish me luck!
Cheese Puffs (Gougeres) |
I saw this recipe by Bee over at Rasamalaysia and my mouth started watering immediately. Look at those golden little puffs of perfection - I need these in my mouth immediately!
Homemade Naan Bread |
And then there's this Homemade Naan Bread over at Budget Bytes - I love, love, love a good Naan bread and it freezes wonderfully as well!
Boy, I'm sure making myself hungry writing this post!
Loaded Hummus |
The Naan would be amazing to scoop up this Loaded Hummus, from Taste, Love, and Nourish - I've made this a couple of times and it's fabulous - such a crowd pleaser! We're going to have a lot of people in the house over the Christmas holidays, and this is going on the appetizer menu for sure.
Curried Jamaican Beef Patties |
Last but certainly not least are these Curried Jamaican Beef Patties from Serious Eats.
When I was a kid growing up in NYC, a local pizza place used to sell these, and I would never fail to pick one up when I was walking past that shop. They were the yummiest, flakiest, most flavorful little bites of deliciousness....all these years later I can still taste them in my mind.
So when I stumbled on this recipe, of course it made the I Have To Make These ASAP List!
I'm obviously going to be spending a serious amount of time in the kitchen this weekend! Hey, what better way to spend a cold winter's day?
What's on your I Have To Make These ASAP List?
All of the recipes sound wonderful! Have fun cooking!
ReplyDeleteI started last night after work, Penny - my first experiment was the Pate Brisee - I made one for the galette (for this weekend) and one for a chicken pot pie tonight!
DeleteA lot of ambitious cooking coming your way, that's for sure! Every one of these recipes had me drooling. That loaded hummus is beautiful. I've made a 7-layer Greek dip, but this is a prettier dish!
ReplyDeleteIt really is gorgeous, Melanie, and delicious - the last time I served it at a family dinner it was demolished, even by those who claimed they don't like hummus!
DeleteEverything looks so yummy!! Thanks so much for stopping by!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Deb
You're welcome, Deb, and happy holidays to you!
DeleteOh my! You have collected a mouthwatering set of recipes to try! I've been planning our traditional Christmas meals and am so looking forward to those. Traditional recipes always make any holiday feel right!
ReplyDeleteMy Christmas meal will be traditional for sure, Leigh - although I haven't decided on a menu just yet!
DeleteWow! Amazing...I think if I leave now I could make it there by dinner time Saturday! 😉 Enjoy your cooking weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou'd be most welcome at my table at any time, sweet friend!
DeleteReading about all of the recipes that you plan to make this weekend had my mouthwatering. I totally get how excited you are to spend a weekend cooking. I get that same way. I am totally intrigued by the black bean burger. Was it really that good? I love black beans, and I love burgers, so I’m really curious about this one.
ReplyDeleteIt was seriously delicious, Pattie, and so simple to make. I prepped the burgers the day before and stored them in a container separated by wax paper until cooking them the next day. The flavor was fantastic! I'm anxious to try the other bean burger now! There used to be a restaurant nearby that made the most incredible veggie burgers - I got them every single time I went there, I craved them like mad. Then they took them off the menu....and I ask WHY?????????? Anyway the food went seriously downhill there so we don't go anymore, so I'm on a mission to recreate that burger. There was wild rice in, that much I remember.
DeleteAll of these sound delicious, but that loaded hummus looks AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteAnd easy to make, Tammie! I make the hummus in advance, and then just add all the toppings on the day of. It's always a crowd pleaser, but honestly we've had it for dinner as well!
DeleteI've never eaten many of the foods you show. But they look so delicious. Your "Sweetie" is a lucky man to sit at your dinner table.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
And I'm a lucky woman to have such a good sweetie to sit at my dinner table, Brenda!
DeleteOkay, now I'm hungry! The bean burgers and cheese puffs look amazing! I mean, so does all of the other things, but those are the two that really caught my eye...guess I'm going to have to beg Santa to keep the weight gain down to a minimum for Christmas...LOL Love and hugs!
ReplyDeleteHa, same here, Benita! I'm not going to worry about it until after Christmas - until then I am just going to enjoy every morsel!
DeleteOh my goodness these recipes are making me hungry. I want to make the black bean burgers the veggie burgers, and another recipe I saw on one of the websites, chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake bars, and the curried Jamaican beef patties. Oh my!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you sweet friend for your kind and encouraging words on my blog. My heart goes out to your Mom and to your sweetie for their losses.
Happy Christmas holidays ~ FlowerLady
Thank you, Lorraine - the holidays are tough for anyone who has lost someone they love. I know you miss your husband every day. xo
DeleteHello Debbie, once you make homemade pastry and homemade pizza dough you will not eat anything else. Homemade pizza dough is straight forward. I'm with you about cooking and baking.
ReplyDeleteLove it and tons of baking this weekend.
Enjoy and happy cooking and eating.
Cindy
I'm excited to try it, Cindy - I don't know why it has scared me all these years!!
DeleteI would be gaining even more weight if I lived at your house! I did make a black bean burger once and we liked them. Reminds me I should try them again! Nancy
ReplyDeleteI try to do a meatless meal at least once a week, Nancy - these black bean burgers did the trick!
DeleteDebbie everything you cook looks delicious, always! My stomach is growling looking at those gorgeous CHEESE PUFFS!! Oh my, they look so good! It all does.Hope you've had a real good week, the weekend is almost here!
