My Warm & Welcoming Home

It's been brutally cold on the mountain top the past week, the kind of weather that sends a chill straight through to your bones.

The moon has been bright in the evenings, shining down on the snow, giving an ethereal glow to the landscape.

It makes everything look blue, and although it's frigid, it's also incredibly beautiful.

I've been 'nesting' when I'm at home, just happy to be out of the cold and in my warm & welcoming home.

I putter around my little house in the evenings, lighting scented candles, turning on all the twinkle lights, with soft music playing in the background.

Nesting. It's what I do on winter evenings, and it makes me happy.

Meet my newest obsession....Goose Creek Candles

This one is called Warm & Welcome and has notes of vanilla, amber, sandalwood....it sends such a cozy vibe into the room, making my already cozy home feel like a warm hug on a frigid night.

I can't get enough of these Goose Creek candles. And I love that they don't use any harmful chemicals in their candles - I can't imagine giving up my candles, they are such a part of my cozy home!

Part of nesting for me means puttering around my kitchen, creating delicious hot meals that warm you to the core.

Soup is on the menu tonight, I have a fresh batch of chicken broth calling my name.

This morning when I woke, this was the temperature on my weather app.

I didn't want to crawl out of my cozy warm bed.

I put the coffee maker on, got the fire going, and let the pups out. They don't stay out long on these frosty winter mornings.

Although it was cold, the sun was shining, and the morning was glorious.

A great way to start the week, for sure.

It seems an eternity since we woke to sunshine like that, and I couldn't help but grab my camera and snap a few photos.

It looks like we have a warm-up for a few days, before dipping back down into single digits.

That's ok, I'll continue to putter around my little house in the evenings, snug as a bug in a rug.

I'll catch up on books, watch some movies, whip up some great meals in my country kitchen, and embrace winter on the mountain top in my warm & welcoming home.

I am truly blessed.

  1. I love candles and warm soup on cold days! Love the photos...everything is so beautiful! You can travel on down to Texas. While we have a little bit of a cold spell right now, the temps will be in the 70s by the weekend! I hate it...this is not winter weather! :-) Love and hugs!

  3. I just order some more of the wax melts and fire fly candles from Goose Creek Candle. I was amazed at how well my candle smelled. I think I have the "warm & welcome" in my order but it could be the "welcome home" instead. I cant remember but I'm sure I will love it.

    1. That depends on my mood, Jen, and what's happening that evening. If I have company coming my playlist is a little different than if I'm just puttering around. Last night I was listening to Anne Hampton Calloway’s To Ella With Love, the night before it was Cesaria Avora Café Atlantico.

  13. We haven't gotten any of that truly bone-chilling weather yet (it's been in the 20's), but it looks like next week will be a different story. We're definitely blessed to have warm, inviting, peaceful homes, aren't we? There's nothing like cuddling up with thick throws in front of a fireplace, fur babies by our sides.

I'm very sensitive to fragrances and can only burn either unscented candles or ones that are made with essential oils. I can't use any candles that use artificial fragrances.

    1. You should make your own candles, Melanie - I think I'd like to try that also at some point, of course with all the other things I have to do when the heck would I find the time though, ha ha!

  16. Hi Deb,
I am a big candle fan and love to find soy based candles to burn. I have a few Goose Creek candles in Christmas scents that I had going during the holidays. I bet your warm and cozy mountain home does smell wonderful on a cold winter night.
    Hugs,

    1. It sure does, Kris! And after I cook, I often put on my oil diffuser to get rid of the cooking smells in the house. So either way, things usually smell pretty good around here!!

  17. I will have to look for that Goose Berry candle scent you mentioned, I could almost smell it from here, and I love sandalwood scents. Your home just oozes contentment, peace and coziness. The sunshine is such a gift in the winter! We've had a few days of sunshine, and I've gotten out cross country skiing to make the most of that sunshine! Winter is such a cozy restful time, I love it so! Blessings and hugs :)

  19. Good Morning, I enjoy all your post, but this one makes me want to get a good book or movie and cuddle up in one of the chairs and stay warm by the fire. You have a warm, inviting home, know you enjoy time spent by the warm fire. I live in South, so we do not have temperatures as cold as you have on the mountain. Also, enjoy all your recipes, especially want to hear more about instant pot. Thanks for sharing so much useful information and sharing you home with us. Stay Warm!
