Weekend Things

It was a busy but beautiful weekend here in the mountains....the best part being that I was NOT WORKING!!  Well....not working at the office, anyway - but let's face it, there's always a ton to do around the house. And after being in the office every weekend for what seems like forever I was one busy girl around home this weekend!

And I was happy as a clam.

I kicked off the weekend with a lovely evening with my sweetie on Friday with dinner out at a local brewery.

Followed by dessert at home.....

Just look at those beautiful chocolates - and I'll tell you, they taste even better than they look!

Christopher Elbow Chocolates are the best!! These were part of my Valentine's gift from my sweetie and we made quite the little dent in this box on Friday evening....oops!

Saturday morning was chilly and cloudy....but I didn't care because I didn't have to go to the office - yay!

I started my day with a nice hot breakfast and a fantastic cappuccino....my favorite way to kick off a weekend.

Then it was time to get busy!

I went down to my utility room and arranged the hydrangeas I dried in the fall at the suggestion of Deb from Frugal Little Bungalow - thanks, Deb!

They really dried beautifully and add just the right touch at this time of year!

Next on the list - I finally hung the shelf I got a while back from Decor Steals....it's been sitting on the guest room bed for the last couple of weeks waiting for my attention.

I just love the way it looks in my bedroom - you can never have too many hooks, that's for sure.

After a quick lunch I headed out to the garage to do a big tidy up - I was inspired by Marty at A Stroll Thru Life - she did a post about her garage clean up the other day and it gave me the kick in the butt I needed to get started.

All the Christmas bins were carried out and stored in the smaller garden shed until they are needed. The remaining bins were labeled so it's easy to find what I'm looking for.

My workbench was cleared off and is now ready for spring projects. Bring them on!

The last project of the day for Saturday was cleaning out the veggie garden. I cut back the herbs and took a few buckets of leaves and other garden debris to my awesome new composter.  Love that little guy.

When the ground melts and the garden levels itself out again it will be in pretty good shape.

My little monkey helped by laying in the sunshine on her favorite chair with her little blue ball.

Brat.

Sunday brought sunshine and blue skies along with much warmer temps - gorgeous!

I spent the whole day in the garden on Sunday - it was fabulous, although my body is stiff and sore today - I feel like I was run over by a bus. Ouch.

I'm guessing I worked off a few of those chocolates.

My younger daughter was right there with me helping to cut back the gardens and rake out the garden beds. She posted a little about it on her blog, The Good Things Comin.  It was so nice to have her working along side me....I hope I am instilling in her a love of gardening that will carry over when she gets her own home someday.

The beds around the veggie garden were cleaned out and lined with stones.

My sweetie came over and helped me drag this big landscape timber over to the back of the veggie garden to line the corner bed. He took it out when he did the repairs to the veggie garden and we were trying to figure out where to re-use it. This thing weighs a ton and it was quite the project to get it in place!

Some day I may get more landscape timbers to line the other sides in lieu of the stones...but for now, at least it's progress.

It's a little crooked country garden, it doesn't have to be perfect. I love it regardless.

We took a break to spend some time with the neigh-bors.

Sweetie bought a big bag of carrots at the market recently for them....he's so cute!

We're still not sure which horse is Sassy and which is BJ...but we do know they were both rescues and they have quite the happy and peaceful life now.

As usual, Daisy, my little monkey, was tons of help when we're trying to get some work done.

Here she is 'yelling' at my daughter to throw the ball for her.

She's lucky we love her so much.

Punk.

  4. What a productive weekend which always feels good. I love your hydrangea arrangment. My sister in law gave me some once and I had them for about 3 years. I know you will enjoy looking at them. What a nice garden you will have this summer too!

    1. I think if I could find a place to display them out of the way they would last longer but if they don't, oh well - there will be more hydrangeas to dry this season!

    1. I have to take one out and then close the box and put them away in another room! If I left them out nearby they'd be gone in a flash!

  11. Whatever it is you eat, I want some! You have enough energy for 10 people Deb, and yes, I do think your daughters are a chip off the ol' block.

The chocolates look too pretty to eat. But that wouldn't stop me ;).

I came across a great article in the paper the other day about organizing garages and it made me wish I had one! I will live vicariously through you if you don't mind.
