Valentine's Weekend Recap

Wow, what a weekend! I don't ever remember temps being as low as they got this weekend....not in the 12 years I've been living in the mountains, anyway!

It looked so lovely when I walked into the kitchen Sunday morning to start the coffee. The sun was shining, my house was warm and cozy.

The thermometer on the deck told a much different story - negative 20 degrees Fahrenheit! Are you kidding me?

The glass on the kitchen door was completely frozen, both outside and in.

Even my new windows which are quite energy efficient had ice on the inside edges!

My little Daisy, a.k.a. "the Monkey", was not one bit pleased at having to wear her pink puffy coat to go out and do her business.

"Please help me.....please get this stupid thing off me.....I look ridiculous and can't possibly be seen in this!"

She'll be delighted to see that the forecast has warmed up considerably - and 48 and rain tomorrow - wow! That's a jump of 68 degrees in just 2 days - bizarre weather!!

I turned off the heater in the little garden cottage this morning - time will tell whether or not my little plants survived.

Meanwhile I feel so blessed to have the most beautiful flowers in my cozy house that will surely brighten up these winter days - thank you, my sweet Valentine, for these gorgeous roses!

They are just so perfect! I'll enjoy them while they are blooming and dry them to enjoy for years after they begin to wilt.

There are some additional colorful roses in the kitchen, thanks to my daughter's sweet man - aren't we blessed to have these caring, thoughtful men in our lives?

I hope you all had a warm and cozy Valentine's weekend - and just remember, only 34 more days until Spring!

    1. Same to you, sweet KariAnne! We have a winter storm heading in this evening with sleet, snow, freezing rain....but alas, I'll be out in it, not snowed in all cozy and warm.

    1. It's so weird, Susie, I'm colder today than I was the past two days - it's just nasty out there today! Bundle up! xo

  3. Those temps were just waaay too cold! We've experienced those horrendous temps here in northern IL but not this winter, thank goodness! (At least, not yet...we still have time!) It's been in the teens here, but warming up this week and supposedly a whopping 53 here on Friday! That'll feel like a heat wave. Beautiful roses you got from your sweetheart. :-)

    1. 53 on Friday? Wow, I'd take it at this point and be quite happy with that!! It's incredibly windy and rainy here today and all the snow we got yesterday is nearly gone already - this is seriously the weirdest winter!

  5. My goodness, I do know how cold that is. We had -20 temps here over Christmas, and we had plenty of snow to bank the house, but it was still pretty bad. No wind though! I think the wind makes it worse. Your dining room looks amazing with the beautiful roses! How awesome to have such beautiful flowers to enjoy! Hopefully you can stay warm and safe tonight, I saw above where you mentioned you were getting another storm tonight. :)

    1. We did, we got quite the winter storm last night. Then the winds kicked up something fierce and the rain came in. Now it's over 40 degrees and still raining/windy and the snow has all but melted! So strange....

  6. I can't imagine temps that low but your morning kitchen is beautiful with the sunlight coming in. Our Jack R hates a coat too whereas our dachshunds dance with joy when I hold their sweater out to them, silly boys.

    Beautiful roses!

    1. That's so funny, Dewena - my daughter would love to get a dachshund - but then again she just wants to adopt all the little furry babies. When she has her own home she can!!!

  9. Our weather has been so weird here in Illinois this winter too...we were below 26 a few days ago and now by Friday we may see plus 50's.
That was a funny photo of Daisy...our dog would have that same look! ;)
    Your roses are so pretty!

    1. Thanks, Kimberley! Daisy is too funny when we put her jacket on...and when we take it off. She has to sit next to it and heaven forbid you take it and try to hang it up! She gets very attached to her 'things' - weird little pup!!

    1. Not one bit, Deb. When we put her coat on she won't budge. She will stand in that spot until you tug her out the door with her leash. She absolutely hates it. Her mommy hates getting a coat on also - I guess maybe it's the breed?

  12. Our Izzy, a boxer, wears a coat nicely when it is raining heavily. She doesn't like getting too wet, but the male, Rowdy, he refuses to wear a coat. They are so funny. We had a snowstorm followed by an ice storm and today the ice is melting quickly under blue skies and sunshine... 61 degree weather on the way! YAY!

    1. 61 degrees sounds like heaven to me! We may hit 50 today but it's just rain, rain, rain and WIND - oh my, the wind is crazy! After today it's back to winter weather. All the water that's coming down today has nowhere to go since the ground is frozen....it will turn into an ice rink when the temps drop again. Yikes!

  13. Your house is so pretty Debbie...The drum shade over your sink caught my eye immediately...LOVE IT! The jacket for your Daisy is adorable :) My little Oakley has to endure the same humiliation when mama decides to dress him up LOL!! Stay warm :)

  14. Oh my, wayyyy too cold for me! Your kitchen looks so warm and inviting and the roses are beautiful! I love the varied shades. Love your dog...and she doesn't look happy at all with having to go out in that extreme cold. :)

Hope things are better soon! We're supposed to be around 70F today.

  15. We've had the same crazy weather lately! We had snow 4 days last week, crazy cold temps and rain now, with the temps sky-rocketing into the 60s by the end of the week! Love the snow and those gorgeous flowers! Hugs!!

  18. Wow we haven't even gotten that cold this year and we've been known to get down to minus 15. This year has been quite kind compared to that past couple for us. The roses are all beautiful! It's nice to let them dry and still admire them. Takes you back to when you got them and brings back a fond memory.

    1. Absolutely, Liz - I had a few bouquets saved in my previous home but when I moved they had to be tossed. They don't pack well!

  19. I had to laugh at the look on Daisy's face. We don't have "weather" in our area so Lulu is not sure what to do when it happens. We had a few days of crazy wind and she actually hid behind the pillows on the window seat. Yesterday we had rain most of the day and she was not sure what to do. She wanted to go outside, but then she stood on the porch, looked around and came right back in the house.

I admire you for living in your climate. I don't think I could do it. I only like snow when I'm skiing and even then I prefer warm sunny days on the slopes.

I hope your week gets warmer and that Daisy doesn't have to be embarrassed.

    Thanks for sharing at SYC!
