My car said it was -1 degree Fahrenheit as I left work this afternoon. And it's going to get much colder before the night is through. The latest weather report predicts -13F with wind chills reaching approximately -50F. Are you kidding me?
I spent quite enough time outdoors today....I believe my contacts may be permanently frozen to my eyeballs. I guess that's cheaper than lasik surgery....permanent contacts - hmmmm, perhaps I'm on to something here?
The poor horses next door had an inch of snow on their backs this morning - I wonder why they don't just spend time in their little barn? It has to be warmer than out in this nasty wind!
I brought a little electric heater out to my garden cottage in an attempt to save the plants I've been overwintering.
It may be too late, but perhaps there's a chance. I'll leave the heater on until Monday - the temps will be significantly higher after the weekend. The plants looked great a few days ago but a little worse for wear today....uh oh. This pic was taken when they still looked good....I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best.
I gave my critters an extra scoop of peanuts and seeds this morning - and again when I got home from work. Poor little things, I feel so terribly bad for them in this weather!
It's really the kind of day you should be inside by the fire playing with your favorite toy.
Squeak! Squeak! Squeak! Wiggle Wiggle! Squeak!
And when you're all tuckered out, it's time for a nap in the chair closest to the fire.
The perfect way to spend a frigid winter's day.

Your garden cottage is gorgeous ... a perfect place to write, except I'd probably freeze my fingers off, lol!

You sure would!! Along with freezing the rest of you as well!!
DeleteI wonder about the horses also...Brr, makes me cold thinking of them. Your dog looked so cute napping after his play. Stay warm, and be safe. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteShe sure loves her naps, that little pup of mine!!! Happy Valentines Day, Susie!
DeleteBundle up! I love the way dogs sleep.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Me, too - they are such sweet little innocent babies!
DeleteBrrrrrr! I won't even complain about the windy day we are having. So sorry this is your busy weekend in such crummy weather. We've got to get you a job where you can work from home, dear friend! I hope you have a nice quiet, cozy evening in front of the fire...
ReplyDeleteI have to leave in order to come back, right Mimi? That's what makes coming home such a wonderful feeling!
DeleteI think you're right, it is perfect weather to stay by the fire and play with your toys !
ReplyDeleteI hope your plants make it through the rough patch. They have a cozy place to recover for sure.
Had to laugh about the contacts freezing to your eyeballs, I've felt the same way when in very cold weather. Sometimes I even experience a moment of panic , fearing the contacts REALLY did get stuck on my eyeballs. :)
They thawed out by the time I was taking them out that evening, Kathy - but doesn't it just feel like they are shriveling in your eyes when the frigid winds hit them?? Yikes!!
DeleteIt's *ONLY* about -2 here / some of you are having it much, much worse!
ReplyDeleteThe deck thermometer reads -20F this morning, Deb - this is just crazy!!!
DeleteHope it warms up soon.
ReplyDeleteYou and me both....bring on Spring!!
Delete-50?? Oh my friend, you are what my New England mother used to call hearty stock! ;) I have been hibernating inside since Friday when temps dipped below ten degrees. I will go outside again when it reaches double digits...positive double digits...again! Stay warm!!
ReplyDeleteI have no choice but to be outdoors....I had to work both Sat and Sun this weekend, it's a very busy time for us up here in ski country!! Believe me, I'd love nothing more than to hibernate on days like this....give me a good book, a throw, and my fire and I'm one happy girl! Tonight will be a lovely Valentine's dinner at one of our favorite restaurants at their fireside table....I can handle that! :) Happy Valentine's Day to you, my sweet friend xo
DeleteWayyyy too cold for me! I always feel so sorry for the animals and critters. I hope today is warmer!
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day!
xo
Pat
It was -20F on my deck thermostat when I woke up this morning, Pat - can you imagine those poor critters out there all night? The wind was ridiculous, the trees were whistling all night. Good night to be in a cozy house!
DeleteMy babies! Squeaking and wiggling, always :)
ReplyDeleteExcuse me? They are MY babies!! :)
DeleteYou have a winter wonderland there, much too cold for me, but it's just magnificent to look at. And that puppy dog, he has the right idea.
ReplyDeleteShe always has the right idea! She has some life, that little pup!!
DeleteCan't believe how cold it is in your neck-of-the-woods! Right now (Sunday afternoon) it is 14 and lightly snowing here. I love your little garden cottage...I hope your poor plants make it. And those horses...why in the world don't their owners at least have blankets on those poor creatures? I hope you are staying cozy and warm and that you're able to finally peel those contacts off your eyeballs! Happy Valentine's Day. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure my plants survived....I guess I won't know until I take all the pots out in spring and line them up outside and see what comes back. Oh, and the contacts? They finally thawed enough to peel them off! :)
DeleteI absolutely love your garden cottage. A little place all your own. :) It is so cold here that we are unable to stand outside for any length of time. -25C right now. Tomorrow it will be freezing, too, and then temps climb quickly on Tuesday to above freezing. My poor birds...I feel so bad for them and keep the feeders filled to the brim. I even bought them a new one today for Valentine's Day. lol Stay warm, Deb.
ReplyDeleteYou're so cute, Deb - a new feeder for the little birds as a special Valentine! My feeders have been busy, busy! These little critters are eating me out of house and home! I love it...wouldn't have it any other way!
DeleteI'm loving your garden cottage! I hope that your plants survived okay, and I don't blame you for feeding the squirrels and birds extra, I felt that way about the turkeys in our yard when we had the cold dip here in December! And your sweet dog looked so sweet playing with the toy and then sleeping by the fire! Always a joy to stop by and have a visit with you :)
ReplyDeleteAlways a joy to have you come visit! I love my little garden cottage and I was worried last night with the high winds it would blow away!! It's a heck of a day on the mountain top today - yikes!
DeleteWonderful photos! Beautiful place! Your garden cottage is just amazing! Very sweet dog! I absolutely love winter with snow.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of your week.

Thank you, Ana, for your sweet words and your visit!
DeleteIt definitely looks like a time to stay indoors and read by the fire.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing at SYC.
And I'm reading the very best book right now which makes me want to curl up all day by the fire!!
DeleteIt is cold here too! And we got about 2 feet of snow on Tuesday! Stayed in all day on the computer. No fireplace here :-(
ReplyDeleteNo fireplace means you need to light a bazillion candles on a day like that!!
