Simple Spring Updates

I'm sure you've all figured out by now that I'm all about color. My home will never be a simple, neutral palette - as much as I admire it in others' homes. I just wouldn't be able to live with it on a daily basis....I crave color.

Despite my color craving, I do tend to dial it back a notch as the winter wanes on. In fall and winter I want to surround myself with deep, warm colors, plush textures, anything that screams cuddle up and get cozy.

But at this time of year when the days start getting longer and the light is changing and the birds are singing their sweet songs I crave a change. I need to lose some of the rich colors and embrace the light and bright.

It was another crazy busy weekend on the mountain top....I worked Saturday, again. Don't even talk to me.

We had a charity auction to attend on Sunday. Mimosas, anyone?

And in between there arrived a large pile of firewood on my driveway that needed to be stacked. Welcome to my weekend workout!

So I found myself on Sunday night after a couple of mimosas I enjoyed at the auction catching up on the chores I never got to do around the house all weekend.

Vacuuming....dusting....mopping....and swapping out winter for spring!

I put on some great 60's oldies music and bopped around the house singing at the top of my lungs and doing a little spring cleaning. Can you just picture it?

My living room went from this cozy and warm space...

...to this lighter, brighter space, just by swapping out a few pillow covers and throws.

The bookcase got a spring update just by changing out the runner from the former red and sparkly one....

...to a more neutral burlap topped with an orange basket:

It's a simple change but it just feels fresher, doesn't it?

The fireplace mantel was an easy update.

Out went the red wreath and cones and in came my large iron lanterns.

It's a cleaner look, and may get a little spring decor at some point but for now I'm fine with the simplicity of it.

The dining room also got into the spring spirit by removing a bit of the red seen here:

The shades on the chandy were replaced with a more neutral ivory, and a simple white tablecloth keeps the palette fresh.

I need a few more 60" round tablecloths for this table....I might be due a trip off the mountain soon - I hear Home Goods calling my name!

The kitchen got a few springy touches as well...nothing drastic, but how cute is this little dishtowel? World Market has the best dishtowels - I'm obsessed!

Of course I had to bring in some springy soaps and cleaners. I love Williams-Sonoma soaps and whenever there's a good sale I'll stock up. Nothing makes kitchen chores a bit more enjoyable than using products that make you smile with their clean, fresh scent!

I'm happy with what I got accomplished on this busy winter weekend.

My home is cleaner and brighter than it was at the start of the weekend.

Now bring on those warmer days....and a few more days off....so I can get out and get those garden beds raked out and ready for spring!

27 days and counting!

    1. Thanks, Susie!! The lamp shades don't want to sit straight....I'm going to have to mess with them some more. They'll drive me nuts otherwise!

  2. I didn't realize it was just 27 days! That doesn't sound so far off. Everything looks so nice. You did a fantastic job! I was just thinking: Did you ever try that couch (the one you see the TV over) catty-corner in that corner just to the left of the TV?

  3. I won't be stacking any wood today...but I am dusting and changing pillows, etc. today. It is so true, just a couple of changes can freshen up a space without spending a penny. Your spaces look lovely and inviting. Sheila

  4. I love how that even with working FT (and overtime!), you still find time to keep your house so beautiful and even change things up. I'm totally with you on using color - I have to have it in my house. We had a couple of beautiful days here in the 50's this weekend, too but now we're back to reality - in the 30's. And endless gray skies. Please hurry, spring!

    1. Some day I will make things easier on myself and put in a gas insert....but as long as I can still carry wood it just makes so much more sense financially for me!

  7. Oh my goodness, can you come to my house and bring spring with you! :) You did a fabulous job of changing out just a few things and adding a spring feel to the whole house! I recognize just how much of a workout that woodpile is! You find out you own muscles you never knew you had, lol! Don't envy you that one! So exciting that spring is now on the count down! :)

    1. I hardly slept that night with the pain in my back, I should have taken some Advil PM!! I'm recovered now, thankfully - and hopefully that will be the last cord for this winter season.
