I'm so excited to get going with my dream she-shed!
I've been shopping around online, getting some things on order to really start to create the garden space I can visualize in my head.

I purchased what I think will be the perfect swing:
Via |
The Adirondack style of this swing totally suits my little mountain top home! I can just see it nestled next to my little garden cottage, with a view of the back of the house and veggie garden, like the view in this photo that I took in August:
The swing is an early birthday present from me....to me! Why, thank me very much!
I've also begun ordering flowering perennials and shrubs for the wild garden - I love this part!!
I started with a good look around Easy to Grow Bulbs.com - I ordered a few items from them last year and I was very happy with the quality. Their prices are great, too!

Here's what I've ordered so far:
Bleeding Heart |
Butterfly Bush Buzz Magenta |
Peony Festiva Maxima |
Peony Karl Rosenfield |
Peony Edulis Superba |
Phlox Fairest One |
Geranium Patricia |
Then I hopped on over to Heirloom Roses - I love Heirloom Roses - their selection and quality are both excellent!
I wasn't planning on getting as many roses as I did but oops...they were having a sale! And I just love roses so much...don't you?
Iceberg Rose |
I got the Iceberg in both a shrub rose and a climber. Love, love, love this rose!
Aloha Climbing Rose |
Morning Has Broken Shrub Rose |
As you can see, I'm off to a good start. The roses won't arrive until early May but hopefully I'll have a solid garden plan figured out by then and the groundwork in place.
I have a lot of work to do but isn't it the best kind of work? Working out in the sunshine among the trees and the wildlife....the scent of fresh earth and pine.
The best kind of workout without a doubt!
I truly can't wait to get started.

Love that you will be planting a butterfly bush! You won't be sorry. We had one at our previous home and last year I planted two at our current home. Within less than half an hour after planting them they had butterflies all over them! So much fun!!
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool! I don't think I've ever had one, surprisingly - but my mom does and she loves them!
DeleteThat swing is a perfect bday present to yourself. I can just imagine relaxing on it while enjoying your view. And I cannot wait for peony season. It's my favorite!
ReplyDeleteMe, too - peonies, roses, lilies - anything that has fragrance just has to have a home in my garden!
DeleteHappy early birthday to yourself. I love what you picked. My grandma grew the prettiest Peonies and had arrangements all over her house. I loved it.
ReplyDeleteI vowed when I moved here I would put in more and more peonies each year as my budget allowed. There's only one existing peony on the whole property which is so weird for a big time gardener like the previous owner was!
DeleteThat swing is to die for! I would love to have one of those here too but I am afraid my dog would eat it. No joke...he would look at it and think "Mommy got big sticks for me". LOL! The flowers you picked are just lovely. I have 2 bleeding heart plants, or at least I did, the dog may have dug one up over the winter. I also have the deep pink peonies. They were a gift from an elderly lady, Grandma Ann, who kind of adopted us when we first moved to town. My husband used to do her yard work for her and she would send us home with peonie, snowdrops and grape hyacinths bulbs for our garden when she would have my hubby dividing them all up in her garden. Every year when those flowers come up I think of our dear Grandma Ann and how tickled she would be to know that we are still enjoying them and part of her legacy of her beautiful garden lives on in mine.
ReplyDeleteThat's so sweet, Debbie - I'm sure Grandma Ann would love to know that her garden carries on in yours...and that her memory is in your heart.
DeleteLove that swing! I have huge bleeding hearts that I planted a few years ago. They come back very early in the spring before anything else and are such a treat after a long winter. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI had a bunch of bleeding hearts at my prior house and I missed them at this new house - I knew I had to find a home for them here!
DeleteGreat swing! We have a swing in our yard and it's the best seat in the house. Everyone crams into the space. There's something about movement....Enjoy it!!
ReplyDeleteI have a swing on my deck, too, Kim - and yes, it's the spot I always gravitate to!
DeleteI don't seem to do well with roses, so I'm not doing much with them anymore. Nice swing.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
That's too bad, Brenda, because no doubt in your zone you could overwinter them in pots on your patio. Maybe you should try a knock out rose? They are super easy and you can't kill them! You can buy them at Lowes or Home Depot, I think.
DeleteCan't you just picture all those blooms around your beautiful home. Oh my! :) Love the swing. Deb
ReplyDeleteThanks, Deb! I know the perennials won't do much this year but aren't we, as gardeners, always planting for the future?
DeleteOK. I'm so loving your blog so much that I've added it to my daily reading list.
ReplyDeleteLisa
Thanks so much, Lisa - that means so much to me! I truly love meeting new blog friends!! Welcome to my little mountain top world!
DeleteIsn't it great that dreaming is free?! I've no doubt that you'll get it looking wonderful as you go forward.
ReplyDeleteDreaming is free.....shopping online is not! Oh well....we can't take it with us, right?
DeleteLove the choices! xoox Su
ReplyDeleteThanks, Su - that's just the beginning!!
DeleteYour swing is beautiful, and happy birthday to you :) I love all your flower choices. Unfortunately, my dog (Roger) ate my peony blooms last year. I don't understand why he eats flowers, but he does. He is worse than the deer. I am going to try again this year planting them in the garden where he can't get in. I can't wait to see what your garden looks like with all these lovely blooms!!! :)

ReplyDeleteI can't believe your dog eats your peony blooms - he must love the flowers! I can't blame him....they are so lovely and fragrant - peonies are a true favorite of mine - it's just a shame their bloom season is so short!
DeleteSounds like you are off to a great start! Loving that swing! ;)
ReplyDeleteI always wanted a cedar swing....finally I'm getting one!
DeleteThat swing is lovely...you'll enjoy it so much! You'll have alot of planting ahead of you :)
ReplyDeleteA lot of sore nights ahead of me....it's not easy digging in our rocky clay soil!
DeleteYou definitely are off to a good start. Love the blooms you've chosen. The only butterfly bush that does well down here is the yellow colored one. The flowers smell like honey and butterflies love it. Your color is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy and planting and seeing them grow and bloom for you.
Happy Spring ~ FlowerLady
I just love flowers and if they are highly fragrant all the better!
DeleteYour gardens will be so beautiful when they get going! Love the porch swing you ordered. Hope you will enjoy many warm summer days on that swing, just relaxing and enjoying your beautiful views.
ReplyDeleteIt will be arriving this week - I'll ask my sweetie to come over and put it together for me while I'm at work!
DeleteOH I love your new swing...I think it will be perfect! It will be fun to all your new plants growing!
ReplyDeleteThe new plants probably won't do much this year but isn't that the beauty of gardening? You are always planting for the future!
DeleteI had a few butterfly bushes in our former home. They were so easy to take care of, and I think they will fit on nicely with the feel of your yard.
ReplyDeleteI had a swing like that too, but we left it when we sold the house :(.

Oh, that's sad, but I hope the new owners are enjoying it!
DeleteDear MM:
ReplyDeleteI love what you ordered and of course that darling swing. It looks like the makings of a perfect summer respite. So glad you shared and linked your lovely garden plans.
I have a good plan in my head now, Bernideen....let's hope it works out as well as it looks in my head!
DeleteThe Swing is beautiful. I would love to have a pretty wood one like that.
ReplyDeleteIt's currently sitting in a large cardboard box at my house....just waiting for sweetie to put it together - can't wait!
DeleteOh my goodness, the plants you've chosen are going to be so cottagey and pretty together.
ReplyDeleteWe are making plans for a pond a butterfly garden here at our house.
Oooooh how nice - I can't wait to see it on your blog, Stacey!
DeleteI love the swing. They are so fun and we adults tend to forget that.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing with us on Thursday Favorite Things!
Cheers,
Jennifer
