How I Get Inspired To Get Up And Clean!

Do you ever feel like you need a 'boost' in order to get your energy up to clean the house?

I do. Especially when it's hot and sticky out, like it is this week.

Uggghhh. Who wants to run around with the vacuum in 90 degrees?

Not me. But, it needs to be done, and it won't do itself.

So, in order to inspire myself, I browse around online at some of my favorite homes. The pictures of those gorgeous rooms inspire me to get up and clean my own!

Ok, it might be weird, but it works for me....don't laugh.

Take Sarah's house, over at Thrifty Decor Chick - I love that she uses color in her home, and it's so warm and welcoming.  Plants + color + layers = gorgeous!

I just want to plop down in that chair with a good book and snuggle in for the day!

And, of course KariAnne's house over at Thistlewood Farms just makes me swoon. And drool.

She's got such a way of putting things together, it's cozy and warm, just like her personality. I love that she uses all sorts of textures to bring in layers of interest.

My friend Kim over at Exquisitely Unremarkable has a lovely, sweet beach cottage.

I know Kim gets such joy out of her home, and I can't help but smile when I see all that red! She's really got the whole cottage style decor happening, and it's super cute and cozy.

Melissa over at The Inspired Room really has this whole decorating thing down! I've been following along as she transforms her new house in Seattle one room at a time.

The color of these walls is "Black Frosted Plum" - isn't it just gorgeous, it completely transforms the space into an intimate and dramatic bedroom.

I love the shiplap she added in the dining room, but the true stars in this photo are her two sweet pups.  Oh, and that credenza - gimme, gimme!

Another favorite is Courtney's gorgeous house, at Golden Boys and Me

Her bathroom was how I first found her blog, when I was trying to find a photo online to help my contractor with a visual when I was creating my master suite. This was the image I had in my head, and I found it online at Courtney's blog! It's almost like she was in my brain, reading my mind.

Her kitchen is just dreamy, with those huge windows over that amazing farmhouse sink.

And just look at that cozy dining area! I love the way Courtney brings in plaids and warm accents, it speaks of her love of the Adirondack Mountains.

Ok, I'm inspired now - time to get up off my butt and start getting my house spic and span!

What do you do to inspire you to clean when you're really not feeling it?

    1. I could have gone on and on, with many more homes, but at that point I truly was ready to get up and clean - it works every time, Marty! :)

  2. I like Courtney's home too. I really so many different styles...that is exactly why most of my house is a mixture. I hate to vacuum anymore. I truly hate dusting. MY favorite chores are washing dishes and laundry. LOL. Blessings for a sweet Sunday. xoxo, Susie

    1. I hate dusting also. And vacuuming isn't exactly a favorite, although I do force myself to do it regularly, which is necessary with the dogs. Wouldn't it be nice to have a cleaning service - ahhhh, heaven!

  3. Good question! We have a long haired cat...so if I see too much cat hair...I'm easily motivated to clean...quick clean that is. A more intensive cleaning is motivated by inviting friends or family over! Love the homes you chose! ;)

    1. Same here, with the dogs. Even though they are short haired, they shed like mad! I have to do my floors at least once a week. And yes, you are so right - I need to invite people over for a dinner party, that usually sparks a huge cleaning session prior!

  5. I don't really get "inspired" to clean, I just do it simply because I like a clean house! Of course, now that Tim is back home, my house isn't as neat and clean as it used to be, but that's OK. And he does help out with the housework when I ask him to do so. Do your girl help out with the cleaning?

    1. I like a clean house also, and can't stand anything out of place....but since I work all week, the weekends are my only time for a deep clean - it kind of stinks to spend my days off cleaning, but I have to do it! Thus the reason for inspiration....otherwise there are a BILLION things I'd rather be doing! :)

    1. That's funny - I have an iron I bought years ago and it's still in the box - I absolutely detest ironing! I'd rather scrub a toilet! Funny how we all have our own things....that's what makes the world go 'round, right?

    1. Kindred spirits, you and I, Deb! Your 'mouse house' must be pretty easy to keep clean - I had a lovely little place a few years back that I rented for a year. Tiny, but so easy to clean - it took me about an hour on a weekend to get it spic and span!

  11. You posted some beautiful (and livable) homes. I love what you have done with your house. My daughter and I say that if you want motivation to clean your house, watch a few episodes of "Hoarders".

    1. Oh, that's so true, Donna!! I've watched that show a few times and I can't imagine how those poor folks even live in those homes! I hope that after the home is cleared out they have learned how much more pleasant it is to live in a home that's free of clutter, although I believe for those extreme hoarders it goes deeper than that. So sad!

    1. You're so welcome, Sarah - I adore your home and it truly inspires me! One of the things I love most about your home is that it truly is a HOME, not just a showroom! You can tell it's loved and lived in - and that's what truly makes it special!
