Well, I did it!!
Remember I told you how I was dragging my feet on decorating the outside of the house because I really didn't know what to do? I browsed around for some ideas and posted them here.
In the end I went with my heart and my gut.
This is what they told me my little chalet style house in the mountains needed.
A simple, rustic door swag with twigs, greenery, and a burlap wreath I purchased from Decor Steals many months ago - love that place!!
Both the kitchen door and front facing/deck door got one of those rustic swags.
The front facing windows got fresh green garland and a simple wreath with a big red fluffy bow. Easy peasy!
Despite my TERROR when it comes to ladders I climbed my fraidy-cat butt up to the peak of the roof to install these lights - shaking the entire time.
Thankfully my daughters insisted on being there with me because at one point the ladder started slipping.....and I hung on for dear life while my daughter steadied it for me.
Whew....I was seriously terrified up there!
I think these lights are staying up year round. There's no way I'm going back up there.
The decorations look great from the driveway as you're pulling in - and the best part is the decor suits the house. It looks like it belongs here among the trees at the edge of the woods!
I did make a few little boo boos - the biggest one (aside from getting on a ladder) was that I didn't overlap the strings of lights where the plugs are.
Now there's a blank spot there. It may or may not drive me crazy.
If it does I have no idea who is going to go up there and fix it.
I might have to hire someone.
Not kidding.
I took the lights on the deck railing all the way around the house also - I had the strings of lights in the utility room, but somehow had never quite gotten around to it. Previously I had only one string of lights draped on the railing by the sitting area.
The deck railing lights are used all year when we enjoy our deck for nightly dinners alfresco or cocktails around the fire. They really add such nice ambiance!
I love the way I can see the garland and wreaths from inside, also - it looks so cozy and warm with the sunlight shining through the greenery!
A happy place to have breakfast for sure!
That sunshine! You know how it truly warms my heart and soul!!
Some of the leftover garland went to finish off the mantel - I am much happier with it now. It feels done.
I feel like the indoor and outdoor decorations complement each other and really suit my little country house in the mountains, which makes me very happy.
And at the end of the day, isn't that what matters?
I love your table centerpiece too! You did a phenomenal job with the outside. I love your house!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Awww, thanks Brenda!! If I had half your talent I'd be scary!!
DeleteEverything looks so pretty! Love your outside lights and you were so brave to climb up there and hang them! Your inside decorating is so pretty! The centerpiece on your table is so cute, your mantle looks lovely and what a sweet tree. Looks like you're done! :)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
It's all over but the shopping....and wrapping....and baking.....and cooking.....oh boy, I'm not nearly done, am I, Shelia?
DeleteWow, it looks like the perfect Christmas mountain retreat...and I can't believe you got up on the ladder!! You are so brave! What we do in the name of decor! ;)
ReplyDeleteHa ha it's crazy, isn't it? I was seriously terrified. I'm surprised my daughter could hold the ladder still - my legs were shaking so badly!!
DeleteLooks like a Christmas Card! Beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteDiane, that's so sweet! A Christmas Card? Wow, now I'm blushing!
DeleteIt looks just beautiful
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Valerie!!
DeleteYour home is just charming...and I love the decorating you chose outdoors!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda - it doesn't compare with the picture of your front porch I used as inspiration but it works for me!!
DeleteYour home from outside will have them taking a second look. It`s gorgeous. Inside is so pretty and festive. I LOVE your table center-piece. I would linger there at breakfast, for sure. I know what you mean about the sun coming in. Love those sun-puddles. Deb
ReplyDeleteYou can't really see my house from the road unless you're looking for it....except for now with the lights on! It looks pretty nice, I must say! Once the leaves come on the trees it completely disappears again - nobody would know the house is here at all - which I love!
DeleteYour home looks wonderful...very Christmasy and festive. There is no way I would have climbed up the ladder like you did. Just leave them up there for next year. ha! or for a deck party! I love the way your greenery and wreath can be seen inside too. We put wreaths on our windows too...and love it. Merry Christmas! Sheila
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't easy, Shelia - I was an absolute wreck!!
DeleteYour home is beautiful all decorated for Christmas!
ReplyDeleteCarolyn
Thank you so much, Carolyn! It feels cozy and ready for Santa's arrival!
DeleteI'd say you achieved perfection! The style of your house is so inviting and the way you did the greenery and lights just accents perfectly. Did you do all that by yourself?
ReplyDeleteHardly perfection, Stacey, but thank you!!! I did do it by myself....with my daughters standing guard over me on the ladder!
DeleteEverything looks so pretty at your house. I love that it looks exactly how you describe it. A little house at the edge of the woods. I know how you feel being up on a ladder and I try not to go above the first step..Happy Tuesday..Judy
ReplyDeleteHi Judy - thanks for visiting my little neck of the woods! The house sits on a hill and backs up to acres and acres of wooded mountain terrain.....my dream home for sure!
DeleteYou decorated the outside of your pretty home just perfectly! I love the greenery and the lights. You are so brave to get up on a ladder and hang lights. I know I couldn't have done that! The photo of your living room with the fireplace and the beautiful tree and decorations just makes me want to walk right into your house and sit down and have a nice chat with you. So welcoming!
ReplyDeleteAnytime you're in the area you would be most welcome to come for a visit, Melanie!!
DeleteYour house looks great and I am glad you got your fraidy cat butt up in the ladder!
ReplyDeleteNext time I'm taking some Valerian Root or something before I head up a ladder!! I don't think my shaking legs helped keep it too steady!
DeletePerfect! You made the right choices all the way through, inside and out! I love your decorations and how inviting your home is...so beautiful!! I am a "mountains" person and would never want to leave! Hugs!!
ReplyDeleteI love my little home in the mountains, Benita, as you well know!! It will never be perfect but I love every little quirk and cozy nook in my little chalet!
DeleteWhat a completely enchanting winter wonderland. May all the joys of the season be yours.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Laura!
DeleteYou have done a great job! i am a fraidy cat too and I admire you for getting the job done!
ReplyDeleteIt's not easy being a fraidy cat and having to reach high places!!! Thanks for visiting, Melanie!
DeleteSo pretty and what a welcome to your home. Very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteKris
Thank you, Kris - it's wonderful to have a place to put down roots once again and I wish the very same for you this Christmas. xo
DeletePerfection!!
ReplyDeleteWell......not quite.....but perfect for me, regardless!!
DeleteOh the Rustic Touches on your Lovely Chalet are just Perfect for the Architecture of your Home. I too am Terrified of Heights and refused to get out on the Juliet Balcony of Death to hang the Swag and Vintage Santa Face... so I made The Man do it, though it made me nervous to watch him up there too and I was shaking as if I was up there with him! *Ha ha* The G-Kid Force think it's hilarious that I can be two rungs up a ladder only 2 feet off the ground and freaking out but the Vertigo is hard to overcome, so I can totally relate to your decision to just leave the lights up there year round! *winks* Thank You for the Home Tour, it all looks so Cozy and Inviting! Merry Christmas from the Arizona Desert... Dawn... The Bohemian
ReplyDeleteThank you for coming by to my little mountain chalet, Dawn - nice to meet you!! Oh, the vertigo.....I am a mess even up two steps, just like you....but I braved it and I'm proud of myself!! Merry Christmas to you and yours!
DeleteI am beyond proud of you and all you're doing to make your home your own. You could be the model for a poster with the words 'I am woman here me roar'! You're inspiring women to know they don't need a man to do things for them. Putting lights up near a roof? Done. Living happily in an isolated mountain home? No problem. Buying said mountain home on my own? You got it.
ReplyDeleteIf you start making water I'm gonna have to smack you ;).
Doreen, you are such a sweetie - thank you so much!! Making water? Hmmmmmm I wonder how I can start doing that? Ha ha I'd be happier if I could make wine!! xo
DeleteEverything looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining the party and for goodness sakes, be careful and stay off ladders!
Everything looks wonderful.

It's going to take a lot to get me back up there on that ladder again!!
