I've been kind of ignoring the largest part of my Christmas decorating simply because I really, really have no clue what to do!
I'm talking about the outside of my house.
I'm pretty much done with the inside and I'm happy with it.
But what on earth am I doing to the exterior of my new house?
I don't have a plan, I don't have any lights or decorations for out there, I'm starting from scratch.
What's a girl to do?
Online search, of course. What better way to find inspiration?

As per usual my tastes are all over the place!

I think I want to keep it kind of simple and rustic. That would suit my house best.

This little house is sort of just classic and simple - and of course I love the red.
Via |
But then I also kind of want some lights on the house that might be seen from the road.
Via |
I guess I'm trying to find a way to marry the two styles.
Via |
And then I see something like this and my mind goes into a tailspin - this is gorgeous!
The simplicity of this really speaks to me, though.
See what I mean? I'm a mess. How the heck am I supposed to decide?
I do know one thing for sure.
It's never, ever, EVER going to look like this.

I'm just saying.
As long as it includes the color red, I'm good! ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou know it will, Kim!!
DeleteCan you imagine paying that person's electric bill? I don't like gaudy. I like simple and tasteful.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
I can't imagine the work that goes into putting all those lights up!!
DeleteI vote for the porch with the sled & ice skates...
ReplyDeleteIf only I had a sled.....or ice skates!! ha ha oh well!!
DeleteI'll bet you'll find just the right inspiration! I do just like you do and look at blogs and Pinterest! I want it all! Thanks for popping in to see me and I've added you to my blog list so I won't miss you're posts!
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Thanks, Shelia!! I do want it all but I had to rein it in....
DeleteI love all of your inspiration photos! The second photo is actually my front porch several years ago!
ReplyDeleteWow, awesome - obviously I love your taste!!!
DeleteIt's overwhelming, isn't it? So many options, but whatever you do I'm sure will be just perfect for your pretty home. You're just getting started, so don't get discouraged. You'll figure things out as you go, and maybe do something different next year.
ReplyDeleteIt is a little overwhelming. I think I need a clone.
DeleteI think it's hard when you get a new house and it takes a few years to get the hang of it. For me anyway! This will be our 5th Christmas in this house and I don't think it was until last year that we really had it down! You are ahead of the curve since you already have the inside the way you like it!
ReplyDeleteWell....it's the way I like it for this year, anyway!! It will be nice to have photos to look back on to see what I did each year!
DeleteSo many cute ideas. That last one...I could almost see the dial on the old electric meter spinning. LOL Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDelete....and spinning....and spinning.....what a bill that guy must have!!
DeleteI saw a house in a beautiful neighborhood yesterday that was so gaudy it hurt my eyes. So glad I am not their neighbor. How fun that you are starting from scratch. So many great ideas. xo Laura
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the very same thing with that last photo - imagine the poor people who live across the street from that house? Yikes!!
DeleteYou've found some good inspiration. I agree with Miss Brenda...simple and tasteful. The house at the end of our street has tons of plastic figures...ugh...
ReplyDeleteMy daughter was giggling about the enormous blow up decorations we saw in Lowes yesterday....one of them was even fuzzy!! No thank you....not for me. I guess the kids would like them though!
DeleteLove all the inspiration. I know you will find your happy decor option for your front porch. Just do what you love and you will be happy. Thanks for all the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteKris
I worked out there all day today, Kris - and of course I took photos to share!
DeleteGosh, in your beautiful setting I'd just keep it as natural as possible.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right, Stacey - and that's what I did. I kept it fairly simple.
DeleteThe first photo had me at the wooden bird. So pretty. I wish I could help you with the greedy blue-jays and squirrels but I really don't have an answer. I just put suet out front and back of property and it seems to be enough for everyone. The chickadees tend to stay at the front feeders. Yah!
ReplyDeleteI just stopped putting it out, at least for now. They get lots of other food from me, just not the suet right now. Oh well!
DeleteLove the ideas for the outside-and I agree the last one will not be happening at my house either!
ReplyDeleteHa ha glad we're in agreement there!!
DeleteI'm with you...I always struggle with the outside decorating. I feel that I never have enough time, money or space to do it like I want, so I really don't do anything....~sigh~ Hugs!!
ReplyDeleteIt was a tough one, Benita, but I love the way it turned out - stay tuned for a post hopefully in the next couple of days!!
