The Calm After.....

A Belated Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all my lovely readers out there!!

I have been missing in action for a couple of days....hard to avoid when I've been up to my eyeballs with last minute Christmas preparations.

And it was all worth it.

A good time was had by all.....

....except these poor little colorful stuffed critters that met their demise within minutes!

Christmas is a busy, busy time in my little mountaintop home as it is for many - cooking a big feast for my whole extended family always keeps me hopping on the big day.

Potatoes were peeled out on the garden swing on this 60 degree Christmas. No complaints there!

Prime Rib was smothered in minced garlic from the garden and roasted to perfection.

Tummies were happy, cocktails were flowing, and there was laughter throughout my new home.

Just as it should be on such a glorious day.

When all is said and done I find such peace at the end of the evening when the kitchen is tidied, the dishwasher running, and the house is calm and somewhat clean again.

And I can take a seat at the end of a long day and just spend time with my sister, catching up on what's going on in her life. That's what the holidays are truly about, after all.

After a much needed sleep I awoke to a beautiful sky and much colder temps than yesterday. The forecast finally calls for some snow on Monday evening....we'll see what happens but I'm hoping!

The local ski resorts are really suffering this season and need some cold temps in order to blow snow - although some natural snow at this point would be even better.

We didn't have our White Christmas but perhaps a White New Year's is coming our way?

Fingers crossed.

Meanwhile, I'm heading to the garden to do a few more chores in preparation for the coming winter.

After all, it has to come sometime.

  2. Girlfriend, if I could pack up every tiny flake of snow we've gotten in the past week, I would surely send it your way. ;-) We got even more last night and the old stuff hasn't even melted yet! Bah Humbug!

Sounds (and looks) like you had a wonderful Christmas. I adore the lovely picture of your home with the Christmas lights glowing.

  6. It's been raining here all day. I figured I'd get up, have my breakfast and coffee and start right in with what I was in the midst of yesterday. But instead I have been sitting back here in bed, the only room not affected, with the pupsters, taking it easy. Hope you get your snow!

  7. Great that you could spend time with your sister after having a wonderful Christmas!
Our little dog isn't happy until he tears the squeakers from his toys.
Your house looks nice with all the lights.
    Have a nice, peaceful week.

    1. Same here, Marigene - my old girl loves nothing else but to tear the squeaker out of every single toy. They are making them better these days - and she's getting older - so she has a tougher time. However, she has no problem ripping all the fur off the toys and leaving it all over my house!!

  9. The calm after the big day is always the best. We might get some snow tomorrow night too. It has been more like Spring than Winter here in Chicagoland too. So happy you had a great Christmas with your family.
Now on to a great new year.

  10. I think we had rain and fog for a month, but it has FINALLY lifted today. Temps have been in the 60's, and today 72. Just had to put a t-shirt on... and my husband is wearing shorts. Can't remember this happening before. No snow this month, so we shall see how January plays out weather-wise. So happy you had a nice Christmas with happiness and calm. Peeling pototatos out on the garden swing sound so nice! xox

  13. Sounds like you had a lovely Christmas in your beautiful, new home! The winter weather will finally hit us tomorrow, too - ushering in Monday with sleet, freezing rain, a little snow and high winds. I don't have to drive anywhere tomorrow, but hubby has to go to work and it's quite far, so I worry about that. And on the homefront, I'm concerned about possibly losing power - they said there was a strong possibility that would happen. Well, I can't control the weather so all I can do is hope and pray for safety!

    1. I truly did, Melanie!! Busy....and wonderful.

Winter hit today with much colder temps - I just lit my fire for the first time in ages, it seems. Power outages aren't fun but thankfully my woodstove helps and my house has a portable generator....not that I have any clue how to start it, ha ha!! I guess I'd figure it out if I had to! Hoping the storm doesn't hit your area too hard, Melanie - stay warm, my friend!
