Brrrrrrr - it's frigid on the mountain top today! We're hitting a low of -2 tonight - winter is here with a vengeance!
Sadly, it's going to get much, much worse this evening - the winds are going to kick into high gear, and with the wind chill the real-feel is predicted to be -29 Fahrenheit.
NEGATIVE 29??? Are you kidding me?
The poor cold, hungry birdies are hopping onto the flat feeder as I'm still dumping the seed in these mornings. They don't even wait for me to walk away!
Our 15 inches of snow eventually melted, but we've been getting snow squalls pretty much every day since, so there's a nice coating out there now.
Hopefully it's enough snow cover to insulate all those poor plants in my garden....like my Mothers' Day tree.
The deck thermometer this morning read about 6 degrees. I guess that's a heat wave compared to negative 29!
Makes me very happy I invested in new windows last year. My house is cozy and warm, and the sun shines into every corner, making me one happy Mountain Mama!
Of course the Monkey knows right where to plop her little bum - right in front of a roaring fire.
Best place to be on a day like today.
Because, baby, it's COLD outside!
Cold, but oh so pretty!!
ReplyDeleteMost definitely - no doubt, every season is gorgeous on the mountain top - I'm so blessed, Lori!
DeleteSame here- We didn't hit zero here today- Temps were MINUS 28 degrees and we have a huge snow storm moving in- 8 to 12" overnight. UGH- I am supposed to pick girls up from school tomorrow to help their mom out and I am already dreading the drive. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, wow, Diana - your temps are way worse than ours!! Be safe, sweet friend! I hope you drive a Subaru like I do!!
DeleteCold here too. I hate that we didn't even have fall at all. Those poor birds! Monkey has the right idea for sure.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
That's so strange that your weather went right from summer to winter, Brenda! Does this mean you're not wearing shorts any longer? :)
DeleteI just posted a title of the same only I added that it was cold inside too. We have had the fireplace going for days now. This past autumn has me spoiled...I did not even want winter. Please stay safe on the roads. We always feed birds too. They need us in winter. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteMy woodstove has been going consistently since October, Susie!
DeleteIt is cold here, but not as cold as you are! We are expecting ice on Friday night late into Saturday. I'll be making some more suet cakes for our birds, they are emptying the feeder in just a few days now instead of weekly.
ReplyDeleteWe have a winter storm heading our way as well - I hope it brings us more snow rather than ice! Be safe, Carole!
DeleteGuess I can't complain at our high of 31 degrees today. Yikes! Your home looks very cozy tho and the snowfall is beautiful!
ReplyDelete31 is an absolute heat wave!! Yes, I am so fortunate to have a cozy, warm home that I love to spend time in - no doubt I'll be spending a ton of time indoors this winter!!
DeleteIt's already -10 in northern MN tonight, and Old Man Winter has foiled our weekend plans...again. I took a vacation day tomorrow to drive to Mpls. and see our grandchildren's Christmas program tomorrow night, but they're under a storm watch to receive 8-12 inches of snow, so we'll be watching a video of the program on our computer instead. :o(
ReplyDeleteDon't you love snuggling indoors in front of the fire when it's too cold to go outside? You're home looks so pretty with the sunlight filtering in, and the views outdoors are so beautiful!
Sorry about your plans getting cancelled, Vickie - that's a shame. I certainly do love snuggling by the fire when it's frigid outside - preferably with a great book!!
DeleteWe are getting into the negatives here too and I am NOT happy about that. I'm in hibernation and winter mode here so I am not shaving my legs and I swear icicles formed on the little hairs when I got out of our hot tub 2 nights ago. ;) My Doofy cat and I are now fighting for the warmest seat in the house near the pellet stove and he made it very well known today that he was not happy that I was in his spot. He spent his day either on top of the pellet stove to keep warm or snuggled up in my lap under the blankets to keep warm. I have a feeling this is going to be a long cold winter.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right about that, Debbie - a long, cold winter indeed!!
DeleteYour photos are so cozy looking! SO cold here, too...-13 when I woke up today, 6-10" of snow tomorrow, and -20 Saturday. Cold, cold, cold!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, your temps are way worse than ours, Linda!! Be safe, and stay warm, my friend!!
DeleteBrrrr is right! I guess the bears are so content hibernating, that they won't bother your bird feeders!
ReplyDeleteYour home looks so warm and cozy. Enjoy that fire!
I haven't seen any bears lately so I'm guessing they are hibernating, Daisy. They'll certainly be hungry when they wake in the spring - uh oh!!
DeleteBrr is right indeed....it's about 5 degrees here in Southwestern Pa
ReplyDeleteYikes - your weather sounds like ours, Deb!!
DeleteHope you have a generator ready just in case.... although a fireplace surely helps. It's weather like yours and ours that has us turning our gas fireplace on. Our heater has been running all day. We were only 12 degrees this morning, 23 for a high today and 15 tonight. Brrrrr. Even the pups don't stay outside long to do their business.... they just snuggle into their beds and sleep.
ReplyDeleteSame here - my pups are in and out quickly in this weather!! And yes, I do have a generator, which is such a comfort to me when we have a big storm!
DeleteOh my goodness, you poor ladies. I don't see how you stand the weather that cold. I'm in s.e. FL, not to brag, my family moved here as a girl, and right now at noon, it is 77 and partly cloudy.
ReplyDeleteDear MM your home looks very warm, inviting and cozy. Enjoy your Christmas with your loved ones. FlowerLady
Thank you, Lorraine - and a very merry Christmas to you as well in sunny Florida!!
DeleteWe are having the same kind of weather. Stay warm. Looks pretty 💕
ReplyDeleteSame to you, sweet friend - stay warm and be safe!!
DeleteWe are so mild in temps by comparison. Yesterday and this morning was our lowest yet of 10°, with winds to 20 mph, but tomorrow it's supposed to be back up to 60°! Good for you to have new windows. It's a critical thing to protect your home against the elements! Stay cozy! It's beautiful, but I'm happy to have warmer clime.
ReplyDeleteRita C at Panoply
Wow, 60 degrees, lucky you! Last year on Christmas it was so strangely warm here, I sat out on my porch swing peeling the potatoes for Christmas dinner - this year things are back to normal for us!!
DeleteOh yeah! It's the same on our mountaintop too! We've got the pellet stove and the gas fireplace going, and I'm still cold!
ReplyDeleteOh well, it gives me time to stay indoors and catch up on y'all ;).
xxx
You're lucky to be able to stay indoors when the weather is like that - I still have to get my butt out in the mornings and head to work!! xo
DeleteThose are some lucky birds to get the help they need this winter. Mine don't wait either. It's -26C here, Deborah. Your home looks very inviting. :)

ReplyDeleteWow, Deb, -26??? That's just wayyyyy too cold!!! Oh well, it is what it is, and no doubt you are toasty and warm in your little mouse house!
DeleteThat is daggone cold! Your house always looks so cozy. Monkey is a very smart girl. My Chis would love an open fire. We had fairly nice weather and all of a sudden, bam, we were hit with a snow...not deep by some standards. Then it just turned cold. We are getting seed catalogs already...a fine way to pass a winter evening.
ReplyDeleteHi Donna - I had a couple of seed catalogues arrive as well - after the holidays are done I'll be enjoying perusing them and dreaming of warmer days ahead!
DeleteIt's cold here in northern IL, too - with lots of snow. It's snowing again tonight and more tomorrow, then HIGH of -6 on Sunday! Wind chills will be about -30. Waaah!
ReplyDeleteWow, that truly happened overnight with you, didn't it, Melanie? Stay warm, my friend!
DeleteYou've been on my mind with all the snow, wind and frigid temps everywhere. We've had temps all over the board here...30's one day and 70's the next. Supposed to be 74 tomorrow before the cold hits late afternoon and 19* Sunday morning! Texas weather is very fickle.
ReplyDeleteYour home always looks so warm and cozy. I think Monkey is very smart and I would be right there too! :)
Drive safely and stay warm!
xo
Pat
Wow, your temps are really all over the place, aren't they? Find a cozy spot to settle in with a good book, that's my advice, Pat! :)
DeleteI would happily plop my bum in front of the fire too! I'm glad you are staying cozy in your crazy cold weather.
ReplyDeleteShe's such a spoiled little Monkey, but she's a smart one for sure, Jen!
DeleteNegative 29? Wow, that is just crazy! We are cold here in Iowa too and not sure if we will make it to church tomorrow. Your little monkey has the right idea...So Cute!!
ReplyDeleteIt's just been such weird weather all over the place, Karen - stay warm!!
DeleteIt's been very cold here too! We have had -8 here with not much of a wind chill, because we don't often get wind here, so thankful for that. Your house looks very cozy and warm. Good windows make a huge difference!
ReplyDeleteWow, -8 - holy smokes, that's cold!!
DeleteNow that is cold! You're colder than we are. We have snow too and it's supposed to get colder tomorrow. How sweet of you to feed the little birds. Looking out at all of that snow it's hard to believe how your yard was filled with all of the flowers and foilage.Stay warm and Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Despite the snow and cold I'm still cutting herbs from the deck boxes for cooking, Shelia - that makes me happy, for sure!
